'Kazaa Lite' dead and buried

edited December 2003 in Science & Tech
It has been reported that the makers of Kazaa Lite K++, the popular 'spyware free' peer to peer file sharing software, which is based on Kazaa Media Desktop, have shutdown the project after they were apparently threatened with legal action by Sharman Networks. Eventhough this will result in no further development on the Kazaa Lite software, the program should continue to function fine, at least for now.

[blockquote]The project, which had been set up to block spy and ad ware within the Kazaa Media Desktop Program has achieved notoriety within the P2p world through its simplistic approach and success in reverse engineering the Kazaa application.

However, the program infringed on the copyright of Sharman Networks, the company that now own and program the Kazaa Media Desktop application, after the purchase of the code and copyright in 2002. The FastTrack (Kazaa) network is financed through advertising systems, which Kazaa Lite K++ does not include, and so was seen as a threat by the owners.

Sharman have threatened legal action, and ordered that the offending content be removed from the official Kazaa Lite sites, including http://www.kazaalite.tk/ which now contains no reference to the existance of the application.

RatFaced said that the decision was “Ironic, that Kazaa is complaining about copyright issues, especially as K-Lite ++ stands for everything that Kazaa CLAIMS to stand for... but fails to deliver.”

We will perhaps never see Kazaa Lite again, but we can hope that users will remain aware of the spyware that is hidden inside the Kazaa application, which is used to finance the creation of the software.

eMule and WinMX offer spyware-free alternatives to Kazaa.

I'd just as soon not download anything then.

They've removed any mention of the software from it. Which is why pretty much everything is gone. Very sad indeed. Still it was inevitable.

Mr. Kwitko had this to say
;D It's kind of like a prostitute who sues for breach of contract when her client doesn't pay.

I was watching one of the "COPS" shows the other night and this woman flagged down a patrol officer. She complained to him that this other woman took her $20 and she wanted it back. The officer asked her why she gave the woman $20 and she said for "anything". He asked her again and got the same response. He asked her again, but this time asked her if she was trying to buy drugs. She said "YES". She told the officer she gave the woman $20 for crack, but what she got was a piece of sheet-rock (LMAO!).

The officer then approached the other woman and asked her if she took $20 from the woman. She said she did not. He then asked her if she was selling drugs. She said: "No, I don't sell no drugs, I'm a prostitute".

I thought I would fall out of my chair laughing at how stupid BOTH of these women were.

Nobody was charged with anything. The officer told the woman that was complaining about losing $20 that she would be arrested for tresspassing if she went to other woman's house again.

I know this isn't related to Kazaa Lite, but.....it's funny as hell! :D

Well, all the KaZaA websites are down now. Anyway, I quit using KaZaA over 3 months ago, and I now use eMule.

However, what am I going to do about getting updated codec packs now that KaZaA Lite website won't do it anymore.

E-Mule is way too slow for music and you don't know what quality or anything it is, only the name of the file.
