Virus help! comp barely moving!

edited September 2008 in Spyware & Virus Removal
ok guys, I dont know how this happened it was literally an over night type of issue.

One of my programs kept crashing, a game world of warcraft and during that time my computer started to move extremely slow and I kept getting this pop up saying so and so file is corrupt, check utlitychk or osmething like that. But the file it pops up as corrupt keeps changing. i ran AVG and it found i think 16 problems but ntn diff happened. i ran spysweeper and removed 23 or so items but still no difference. What on earth is going on?!

BTW i just installed a virus program (avg) today after this issue.

Run Vundofix.exe which you can find on google. Run both of those in safe mode. That usually does the trick for me. You may also want to download spybot search and destroy and using the teatimer feature after you run those other programs. It will prevent anything from changing your files without your pemission.

I hope you get the problem fixed.

Please be patient. We have a limited number of volunteer experts available to assist. They are busy helping others right now who also crapped up their computers. They'll get with you when they can.

    Jonnie,

This section of the forum is pretty much for the volunteer spyware killers that are on this site. If you want to help, you need to speak to Trogan. Other than that you can pretty much post anywhere else :)

    Welcome to Icrontic

I have to have permission to offer advice? I don't understand. The welcome email I have received called this forum a laid back "living room' type ambiance. What would make their suggestions more valuable than mine? Thank you for the welcome though.

JonnieWalker, welcome to Icrontic! This forum is very much laid back, however only authorised members (spyware helpers) are allowed to post in this particular forum. This is because they have the skills/experience and training in dealing with infections and the like.

Throwing tools around such as VundoFix.exe, without knowing what is on the computer does not help anyone. I hope you understand!

Sweeper, please post a HijackThis log.

    Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
    • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    • Click on Install.
    • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
    • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Save the log to a convenient location as you'll need to post it soon.
    • Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
    • Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Post the HijackThis log back here.

what about this, what if i put my slave as my main and my main as a slave and it should load, assuming it does then we run scans on it like that? see wehre the problem came from? the weird thign is i did a scan yest rejmoved a trojan and such so i dono why this happened.
  • edited July 2008
ok i started it up with my slave as teh 1st boot, and it worked but its as fast as a damn turtle with 1 leg.
  • edited July 2008
i ran the scan but it took 30 min so i dono if it was only 1 hard drive or both. Cuz I booted iwht my slave not my main so i dono if that affected the scan process. BTW, I had installed a program called Spyware Terminator and after that my comp would go to the blue screen and even after i booted wiht slvae just now it was lagging, I manually closed it and it stopped lagging or freezing. Do you think that program was causing the problems?

    Hi Sweeper,

Spyware Terminator was once considered as a rogue/suspect anti-spyware program, so I would uninstall this from Add/Remove programs.

    Please do the following...

    1. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version...

    Updating Java:
    • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update6.
    • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
    • Click the "Download" button to the right.
    • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
    • The page will refresh.
    • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove the following...
      • Crawler Toolbar with Web Security Guard
      • Java(TM) 6 Update 4
      • Java(TM) 6 Update 5
      • Spyware Terminator <-- as mentioned above
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
    2. The following are optional; however, any time you are running any type of P2P application, you are FAR more prone to infection by malware. Your current infections are likely due to P2P use. At the VERY LEAST, please refrain from using any p2p programs while we are cleaning your computer.

    Ares 2.0.9
    LimeWire PRO 4.17.3

    3. Open HijackThis
    - Click the Do a system scan only button
    - Check the following entries (below)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1CB20BF0-BBAE-40A7-93F4-6435FF3D0411} - C:\PROGRA~1\Crawler\Toolbar\ctbr.dll
    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgssie.dll (file missing)

    O3 - Toolbar: &Crawler Toolbar - {4B3803EA-5230-4DC3-A7FC-33638F3D3542} - C:\PROGRA~1\Crawler\Toolbar\ctbr.dll

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

Does NOD32 have a subscription? If not, then it is useless as it is not protecting your computer. NOD32 is a very good Anti-Virus program.

You can download AVG Anti-Virus, which is free but you need to uninstall NOD32 first as multiple Anti-Virus programs will conflict.

waht do you mean a subscription or else its pointless? Right now I am on a 30 day trial for it and seems ok so far. I did use kaspersky a while back and liked it a lot. sorry it was called NOD32 not COD32. for some reason AVG hasnt' worked well with me. On this computer and previous ones.

Paid Anti-Virus programs (such as Norton, McAfee etc) come with a year, or two year subscription depending on what you pay for. Once they expire, you'll need to purchase a new subscription to keep receiving updates.

Free Anti-Virus programs do not have subscriptions.

The NOD32 you're currently using is a trial version and you will stop receiving updates after the specified date, thus leaving your computer unprotected.

        I hope that is clear.

        Hi,
what do u think of kaspersky? So if i buy it online, its only for like 2 yrs? then i gotta buy one again then?
Kaspersky is an excellent Anti-Virus program. You can decide if you want a 1 year or 2 year license/subscription, but yes; once your license has expired, you will need to pay for a new one. There are free Anti-Virus programs that do not require licenses, as I mentioned earlier.

        Please do the following...

        1. Run HijackThis and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
Click on delete a file on reboot...
Copy and paste the following into the "File name:" text box and then click Open:

        C:\OLD HARD DRIVE\Ares Downloads\toss dice.mp3

When you are asked "Do you want to restart your computer now?", click NO.
Repeat these steps for the following file(s) and this time, when you reach the end, click OK:

        F:\Program Files\iPhoneRingToneMaker\unins000.exe

Your PC MUST reboot to delete the files!

        2. Let me know how the computer is running.
