http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html Let me know if there's something in these that constitutes an improvement over the 3.7's (the last good set of drivers ATi came out with imo)

Playing the game Battle Field 1942 under Windows XP results in the Haze effect appearing incorrectly
Playing the game Call of Duty no longer results in the operating system failing to respond
Setting the game Flight Simulator 2004 to display at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 followed by starting a new flight no longer results in the menu being flipped just before the new flight is about to begin
Choppy gameplay is no longer noticed with attempting to play the game Homworld 2
The game Jedi Knight-Jedi Academy no longer fails to respond when enabling Anti-Aliasing to 4x or 6x

Good ones IMO. Let's hope they are true this time ;)

I read the Release Notes here http://www2.ati.com/drivers/Catalyst_310_Release_Notes.html and I think they meant to say that "Playing the game Battle Field 1942 under Windows XP [no longer] results in the Haze effect appearing incorrectly". Anyway, ATi claims that 2D performance has improved 3-6%. Maybe Ill give them a try. None of the bugs they fixed or issues they resolved were a problem for me with the 3.7's but I'd be interested in seeing if the 2D performance bump is real.

    Wow that was efficient.
None of my games work anymore.
I installed the driver without removing the old 3.9.
    And now nothing works.
I even tried installing it twice.

Won't have time to install them tonight, but I'll slap them on tomorrow. I really can't be bothered cleansing my PC of the 3.9's tonight. Tomorrow is the day.

Not sure what I think about the '3.10' version title though. Do you mean '3.1' or '3.10' sir?

    Cheers

Yeah you really need to cleanse before you install. Start from scratch me old matey, and follow the link:

The notes included in the installation even say you should uninstall previous Radeon drivers before installing the new ones... :shakehead

I will qoute from Forrest Gump here:

Installing a driver is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

ATi has an uninstaller utility now (came out with the 3.8's I believe). So, you don't have to go thru any complicated gymnastics (like with RegCleaner, etc). Get the uninstaller here http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/catalystutils.html . D/L it, install it, run it (just follow the prompts) and it'll remove everything "ATi" from your PC. Then install the 3.10's.

Cool, I'll take a look at that, but to be honest, I'm a 'do things the manual way for re-assurance' kind of guy.

Spinner, let's get this straight. YOU'RE Spinner, HE's Bothered, right?

Everything is back in working order.

    I uninstalled the installed driver.
After that I ran DriverCleaner and got rid of anything ATI related.

I rebooted and installed 3.10 and everything is working again.

    CAG had this to say
    Spinner:

I've used the uninstaller utility and it works really well...thorough and easy. Give it a try.

Gave the un-installer a try, seemed to do its job well enough, but after double checking to see if it had missed anything, I found several driver files still in the c:\windows\system32 directory, but apart from that, all registry entries had been deleted and any reference to ATI had gone from the c:\Windows\INF folder. So all in all, yep, worked great, but not quite as efficient as doing it the RAGE3D way. So I'll stick with the manual approach for now, but that's just because I'm funny like that, I admit the tool seems to do a good job. Thanks CAG. I'll add it to the downloads section.

As for the drivers themselves well, the 3.10's got through 3DMARK2001SE and 3DMARK2003 just fine, no stability issues to report, with the nice discovery that the dodgy font problem I had in some games with the CAT 3.9's has now thankfully gone. So all smiles in this corner.

    Cheers:thumbsup:

Ive been down and out with the flu for the past 8 days and just made it back online this afternoon and see new ati drivers are out. Saw the other post but mostly seemed to talk about uninstalling the old drivers and stuff. Id like to know whats the word on this latest effort? Good/bad or ? After some bad press on the whole monitor issue Im a bit leery on trying the new one. Thanks in advance =P

Good, image quality a little better, contrast is brighter and colors seem a bit more vivid.

There seems to be a pretty good performance increase with AA and AF applied as well.

I am pulling a 4400 (borrowed) and installing a 9600 (Newegg $88). Is there a handy one shot cleaner for removing hte NV drivers before I try loading 3.10??

I installed right over cat 3.9. Everything works dandily. The colors do seem a little brighter, too.

    In other news:

I have those Omega-tweaked 3.9 drivers. Will removal (via rage3d guide, or ati.uninstaller) be needed? Bear in mind my current irritated state, and no funny stuff

ATi really need to remove this SmartGart crap. Even though I have AGP8x and FastWrites turned off in the BIOS, SmartGart forces them on, and Windows does a VGA lock, recover, lock, recover, lock.... etc so I can't get to SG to turn it off (you cant run SmartGart or change it in Safe mode). Highly annoying.

Yeah, certainly a better driver package than the 3.9's. I've been using them fine since their release with no problems whatsoever.

    SmartGart uninstaller ;)

The problem is, it occurs immediately after install, so I cant get into Windows to uninstall SmartGart. If I could get that far then I could just switch AGP 8x and Fast Writes off anyway.

That would probably work if it lets you run the uninstaller in safe mode, not sure if it does.
