Ad Ware or something...

I have been using Ad Aware and Spy Bot S&D to figure this problem out, along with anti-virus.com, but it happens constantly.

I even put my huge HOSTS file onto this PC...

Basically, my brother uses it for pRona nd crap, and somehow manages to screw it up royally. This is an HP, they come fubar, yet he brings it a new meaning!

So right now, it constantly changes the Internet Explorer HomePage, I do a scan, and find the culprit, then get rid of it, change Home Page back to norm. But after a reboot, EVERY god damned malware program is back!

Again, niegther Ad-Aware, SpyBot, nor AntiVirus software seem to find jack.

Using Spybot S&D, you are able to lock Internet Explorer's options.

(Make sure you're using it in Advanced mode, and that you changed the 'homepage' setting within Internet Explorer first)

Select Spybot-S&D from the left pane.
Click on Immunize <---This will automatically check for immunities.
Check all of the boxes that start with "Lock..."
    Click on "Check again"

No Reboot needed, and you're good to go.

IMO, Spybot is a versatile program that you could use to secure Internet Explorer, Specify Startup options, even editing the HOSTS file that you mentioned earlier. Browse the "Tools" category for greater functionality.

Yes, those are options I am well aware of, however, they are merely options, and while it may prevent the noticable effects, they do not get rid of the malware causing those issues.

RWB, also add SpywareBlaster to that list. Once you get rid of the junk it will prevent further "infestations."

I've had similar problems in the past. It turns out that by immunizing, and locking the mentioned files, that -provided I ran Spybot on next bootup- most of the malware were removed. I'm out of solutions, so better luck next time. :buck:

Spywareblaster is a must have. Mr. Kwitko's spot on.

if none of the suggestions work, check to see what is in this folder...often getting rid of things I don't recognize seems to work...and sometimes the ad-killing software misses/doesn't completely remove something:

Also, if you've got an "always-on" connection, your Internet Temps directory should be no more than 20mb. That way, you won't have to worry about the lingering refuse from certain websites, as IE will automatically clean it out on a regular basis.

Btw, have you tried using other Browsers? (i.e. Opera)

This is my moms PC, and she is hesitant on allowing me to change it. Prolly cuase I destroyed a few of her computers trying to figure out how they work as I was growing up ;)

Yeah, if your brother is a pr0n freak and a "install every helpful smiley cute app" type, maybe you should kill the problem at the source and just make him start using mozilla, firebird, or Opera.

Here is my rule for an HP/Compaq/Dell.

#1- If its new, DELETE EVERYTHING!!!
#2- If it is not, Format and redo it.
#3- If one and two don't work, Ghetto Olympics!!

Since he is a pron freak, teach him the good sites to go to that don't install the crappy stuff.

Hehe, very true. I used to work for Dell, and when someone would call in with the PC being slow, we'd just stop from loading at start half the crap it came with, eheh.

Just got a Compaq laptop, FFR'd the bastard first chance I got. Didn't help either that the friend that did the in store install of it (they basically turn it on to make sure it isn't a dud) spelled my name wrong when doing the install. It was like that everywhere in the registry. NOT ANYMORE!!!
