Are there any good Windows XP-compatible XBox emulators?

Nope. No xbox emulators currently available, although there are several in development. However as of yet, none are even close to being complete.

Yeah... you managed to confuse the hell out of me, too, until I remembered that you were "at a restaurant with Prime, SMJ, McBain, -tk, et. al."

Zophar's Domain is where I go for emulator news. They tend to have fairly up to date information, though even where they don't they link the web page of the developing team. Hence, they might be a day behind reporting a Pete's GPU release (for PlayStation emulators), but their link to Pete's webpage is right next to the download link for their most current version.

Thanks guys. It doesn't matter anymore, though. I just found out something that made my day:

This game is why I was looking for the emulator. I have seriously been considering getting an xbox just to play that game. But it's coming for PC apparently, and come hell or high water, I WILL have a copy of it.

Yeah, curiously, very modified and customed Linux core is what XBOX IS. That is why there is such a PITA with XBOX emulation development. Linux and XP do things just enough different that makeing the emu work with an XP hosting base and an XBOX ROM is a real PITA. ROMS are not legally free, cuz copyrighted.

Actually, you’re entirely wrong. The XBox runs a stripped down version of Windows 2K + a stripped down version of DirectX. I have many mag. articles with it's developers discussing this very fact.

Why the hell would Microsoft use Linux?

    Correct.

The problem with making XBoX emulation work is the fact that enumerating the slightly-different-than-PC hardware is difficult. Couple this with the extreme encryption on almost every hardware function, and the high dependence on the XBoX's BIOS, and you have problems.

emulators are programs which allow you to play games (roms usually) from other systems. For instance you can download an n64 emulator, and then download n64 roms such as super mario 64 and play them on your computer.

Bear in mind that emulators are legal, but downloading and using ROM images of games and apps that you do not own is illegal.

It's not necessarily games. I run a 68k Macintosh emulator (Basilisk II) on most of my Windows PCs that I run MacOS 8.1 and most of my old Mac software with.
