It's the name of a town in Ireland. I think the etymology is somewhat uncertain, but it is likely that the town of Donnybrook was noted for it's brawls.
(Hey, they are Irish, after all:D )

    From Dictionary.com:
    donnybrook \DON-ee-brook\, noun:
    A brawl; a free-for-all; a heated quarrel or dispute.

Wine and talk flow freely, so much so that the meal ends with a Rooney family donnybrook over, typically enough, religion and politics.
--Howard Frank Mosher, "24 Hours in Due East, S.C.," New York Times, April 7, 1991

But this was the beginning of Tommy's years of fighting back, a period that ended in a donnybrook conducted all over the O'Connor house.
    --Tracy Kidder, Home Town

The author finds few villains in "West Virginia's Battle of the Books," which describes a donnybrook over the content of public school textbooks during the mid-70's in the "seemingly placid community" of Charleston, W.Va.
--Kaye Northcott, "Round Up the Usual Enigmas," New York Times, February 23, 1992

We know you lost a lot of points during the blackout turmoil, prime. Even money says you're going to come roaring back.

t1rhino is on a point rampage, though. It's going to be a lot of fun watching you heavyweights slug it out!

You should have an easy time passing me. I don't fold any more.

Thrax quit folding? The guy who had "Fold or die?" and a stinging diatribe on the stupidity of not folding in one of his past signatures?

    What happened?
  • ThraxThrax 🐌 Austin, TX Icrontian

My processor hitting 150 degrees is what happened.

    -SK-7 w/ full speed tornado
    -136 CFM through the case
    -Artic Silver III
    -1.6v/2000MHz...LESS voltage than a normal 2400.

I have no central air at home. The temperature in my house rarely dips below 88*F in the summer. The temperature in my case rarely dips below 100*F in the summer. The processor IDLES at 128-132*F. Add about 12-15*F for folding...That puts me in temperatures I don't care to be in.

Folding is going right now because it's a cool day. But I won't solidly fold again until the fall firmly sets in.

It will be good to see you back once Fall arrives.

It is to my eternal shame that I confess to the reason behind my own hiatus from Folding. I go on these "tweaking" kicks, and about a year and a half ago my main bugbear was CPU temp. My CPU temp went from 38C to 45C due to Folding. (Nice central AC for my allergies year-round). So I cut out the Folding for a brief period.

It was only when I managed to shake some sense into myself and convince my obsessive nature that 45C was fine (and it is - no temp problems at all) that I jumped back in. However, if I had temps like yours I would have to make the same tough decision.

BTW, since "Donnybrook" is back in the news (Thanks for the interesting link, Red Dawn  ), I couldn't help but notice this:
The Oxford English Dictionary defines a donnybrook as "a scene of uproar and disorder; a riotous or uproarious meeting; a heated argument."

I'd say that primesuspect and t1rhino are having "a riotous and uproarious meeting" right now. Stand back folks - the sparks are going to fly! :)

They may not look great, but you can get an A/C just for your room, or do you not have the $?

    http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?CNTTYPE=PROD_META&CNTKEY=misc%2fsearchResults.jsp&BV_SessionID=@@@@1521547138.1061582989@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccjadcjeihekfhcgelceffdfgidgmn.0&MID=9876&frmSearchStr=air%20conditioner

Window units as low as $129. Don't know if that's powerful enough for your room . . . you might need the $149 model, or have to go up to the $429 model though that is probably more than you're willing/able to spend. The others might be too, I don't know.

Well...I think you might do something like that. :D

I only mention it out of respect for your willingness to take a stand for your ethical/moral/political positions in the past.

Of course, were it not for the entirely reasonable explanation which you have already provided, we'd have ganged up on you and argued you into submission. :D

    Our power system is...Old. Ancient.

1955-1971 ancient. It has crazy ass knob-based wiring in places (Think running a neutral wire over the entire house, then patching a hot wire to a ball where electricity needs to be). Our house still runs on a fuse box, not a breaker box, and the AC would have to be on its very own circuit if we wanted to avoid blowing a fuse.

    It sucks.

Our duct work and power disallows central air, and the power disallows box AC.

Get a dryer duct. Seal your case... use Duct-Tape if need be. Pipe out window through 3-4 layers of open-cell foam filter.

Assuming you don't have AC, this won't be a condensation issue either.

Depends entirely how the lab's little cooling problems get handled..None of the PCs have cooling besides the CPU fan. Not even the PSUs have fans.
