Alpha Testers,

The time has come -- the game is live and you are cleared to begin playing! The link to the application is http://apps.facebook.com/civworld.

While the game is in alpha, unexpected connection or communication bugs can crop up. If you are having trouble connecting to the game or you think the game has lost sync, try refreshing your browser. You can also try emptying your browser’s cache before a refresh. If it still does not work, please contact us at the support email, CivWorld@2kgames.com.

As you play, remember you can check the Civ World wiki for information about how the game works. That can be found at http://wiki.2kgames.com/civworld/index.php/Main_Page.

Enjoy!

Perhaps we will actually start to understand the way the game will play out now that we can get in there. Hopefully there servers can take the load.

Taking a while to connect here too. Looking forward to getting in, though!

EDIT: I take that back, looks like it's down for maintenance, haha.

Man, this is glitchy. Buildings keep disappearing, dialog boxes disappear before I can click on them, quests keep demanding I do them after I already have...

There are a lot fewer players than I thought. We're in a pretty exclusive group.

Seeing what I've seen so far, I can't imagine that this game could possibly support thousands of players at once.

As has Johnville. (Ugh, still wish I could change that name... anyone know how?)

I still have no idea how to join a civilization, but I couldn't even access the Great Art puzzle the second time I was in last night, as the first few quests kept repeating. But I did manage to create two guard towers with one build, though the second tower kept floating around whenever I moved across the screen.

I did see in the summary that popped up when I first got back in (a nice feature) that the Aztec declared war on the dirty French. Did that actually happen, or was that war created by the game's imagination?

Finally joined. So, is everyone in the Aztec Coalition from Icrontic? I'm guessing not.

I am in the Aztecs as well.
We did attack the French but the battle has many rounds which i wasn't expecting. So please go add forces to the battle whenever you can. You can purchase extra men in the market place, then click the battle icon. Then click your men at the bottom of the page to add them to the fray.

Anyone can join the Aztecs actually and i think we have some extras in there, but you seem most powerful when working together. Especially for goals like wonders where you need a great person from different people to complete it.

We just started up a battle with the barbarians as well (or maybe they attacked us). Interesting to see the colossal "unrestricted" (or whatever) bonus from the barbs not having one unit type (naval) which I put on the field. Brought us from something like 10 strength up to 90 with five galleys. Wow.

Added lots of units to the French war too. Can't tell yet if there's a limit on the number of a particular unit type you can add. It's definitely at least 7-8 though. Seems like you gain the biggest advantage if each nation contributes a whole lot of one type of unit, rather than just a couple of each type (as that blocks up slots for new reinforcements). Also, set everything with attack strength to "Heroic". It makes a huge difference.

Does seem a bit fiddly if you try to send some of your units to one battle and some to another though. For instance, 3 Warriors to one and 3 Warriors to another. Have to keep clicking and un-clicking. Aside from that though, it's ok.

Seems like we are falling behind in science. Perhaps some more people can work on the maze puzzle to catch us up to some of the other civs. I am out of moves at the moment.

I've been concentrating on Science as much as possible, I even spent all my little dollars on finishing up the Horseback Riding tech we were on.

How can we be falling behind when we've only been in the game for a day? How fast are the other civs getting techs?

Edit: Wait... Are techs specific to each nation, rather than to the civ?

I've almost got Pottery. Or my share of it. Not sure how it works, yet.

The photo puzzle was crazy frustrating with all the disconnect/lag issues yesterday, so I haven't bothered with it and thus haven't contributed many great people to wonders.

The only way I've found to make anyone happy so far is to place their houses next to water.

And forests, too. The only way I could make my scientists whine less was to put three of them as neighbors, wedged between forests and a lake. Next to a library and a Starbucks. Needy punks.

Got it. Working on iron working, now. Getting a bit more serious with science. Upgraded my library a notch, and I'll upgrade it another one once I save up more harvests.

It does seem that some other nations (Germans specifically) are teching way faster than us. Not exactly sure why this is at the moment, whether they've just started the game earlier or spent way more time in it, or found some thing I've been missing.

I haven't actually done many harvests yet, so I'm probably not contributing as much as I otherwise could.

The harvest regenerate over time, so yeah please do those.
I think the main thing with the science is that only one of us has to earn it to unlock it for the civ. So it would seem beneficial for us to coordinate what everyone is researching.

Ah, ok, I didn't think of that. I presume it's scaled so that when you have 0 harvests available, they regenerate faster than when you have 10 harvests available, and that regenerates faster than when you have 20 available?

Yeah, we should do that. What to research towards though?

So, have others here managed to gain access to the CivWorld private forums? I haven't been approved yet... bit frustrating as I applied at 3pm US west coast time (I think), nothing happened, and now apparently I have to wait the whole weekend to gain access to the Alpha forums. Ah well. :)

Also, is the game down for everyone else? Haven't been able to get in the last few hours.
