I was going to post a rebuttal to your post because you mention it in the thread. However, I think I found it on another site when solving the market issue myself.
When trying to backup in ROM manager, I get an error. It pops up "You must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed before continuing". Attempts to install with the prompt fail. What do?
