Imagine, just for a brief moment, a parallel universe.......one in which the Eastern Bloc were ultimately victorious, say around 1962 or so. The United States becomes a Soviet satellite, and our nation embarks on a destiny with a socialist planned economy. It's still America, but not exactly the one we know.
In this world, rock and roll evolves, but with a decidedly eastern European flavor.
Fast forward to 1973. The country rock band we know as Lynyrd Skynyrd does not exactly exist. What does exist is an odd amalgam of the boys and girls from Jacksonville and the kids from Athens, Georgia, the B52s. In this universe, they are known as the Leningrad Cowboys, and they perform an odd mix of Country Rock, Euro pop, with some new wave overtones.
By clicking the link below, you will experience a wonder of the ages.....an actual video of this band performing in this parallel universe for the troops about to be deployed to liberate Afghanistan. Joining them in this ditty is the Red Army Choir.
Sadly, just a few days after this video was shot, their airplane crashed in Kazakhstan, on their way to a concert date in Bishkek, Uzbekistan.

Handsome Boy Modeling School - It's Like That
These guys are awesomesauce. They're technically hip-hop but have blurred the line so much. They've collaborated with such a wide spectrum of artists. On their last album, White People, they have Chino Moreno from Deftones, Omar Rodriguez and Cedric Bixler from Mars Volta, and even John Oates from Hall & Oates. Yes, that Hall & Oates.
Say what you will about him, I think he's a BAMF. And I like this song cause the beginning describes one incident I got into. And the song overall, it's all about living in the moment and trying to get people off your back. Granted he's talking about the paparazzi and I'm not.
