The dirty dirty irony of my situation right now is that my home net is an order of magnitude faster than my work net. This should not happen :(
  • Why does the internet speed varies so much? According to this dutch site http://internetsnelheid-testen.nl/ my internet speed changed from 8mb to 2mb whitin 5 minutes?

New speed level of Comcast service here, to Atlanta, Ga. Not the best I have gotten.

    Last Result:
Download Speed: 30504 kbps (3813 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3207 kbps (400.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
  • In Europe we got Fiber hah.

100Mbps connection to rest world, only limited by available bandwidth at other end.
  • Well I paying like 20 bucks for my current plan, they even have 300Mbps plan for like 35+ bucks and there are others ISP offering 1Gbps now, I'm satisfied with 100Mbps for now, coz it's fast enough for anything you trow at it.

    And the home connection:

Not bad considering I pay for a 15Mb/s plan.

Here they go from a 12 Mbps (which GOT 20+ frequently) to a to a 20+ plan that they say averages 23+ frequently. The 20 plus plan, which never reaches 30, is 8 dollars more than the 12ish plan. Thus I was encouraged to get a speedier plan-- their voice phone system now greets you with "Welcome to Comcast, home of the speed guarantee."

(Sprint was cutting into their business when they had cable only and the online connects were open to weather while Sprint had fiber) I used that to get a new cable run to house from base of pole FREE. I think it might have disintegrated underground, as the summer rains keep it bathed in water and the lawn chemicals may damage its insulation over time. Old cable was 10+ years old, pre-HERE-hurricane.).

I got spoiled and wondered how fast it would be to get Linux DVD ISOs and let the install run online, the answer is about 15 minutes for a Fedora DVD ISO of 3 GB in size to 3.5 GB in size, and online installs run about 20 minutes if the installer installs 1234+ RPMs on my newest laptop. Fedoira now also in background will auto-update in background if it has an online connect all the time.

Just received news that Fermilab will be only one of four labs in the USA to have 100Gbps WAN. Yeah, 100GB and not just one link either. We are also working, in conjunction with these other labs, to hit the 1Tbps WAN in the near future (3-5 years). Our national laboratories working on projects that will affect technology of the future. Remember that... ;)

I'll say it again. The only results that should be valid are the connections that you can download porn off of.

  • le sigh... I'm about a hair's breadth from going back to Comcast just because they actually offer a decent high-speed connection in my area. Problem is, I would need to have coax run into my house.
