Happy first birthday to Icrontic Gaming!

Happy first birthday to Icrontic Gaming!

Yay! Cake!

Yay! Cake!

Yay! We’re one!

Besides mashing our faces into cake and crying at all the attention, we want to do something special for all of our loyal readers and fans who have helped us get to this point.

The past year has been amazing for the “Orange” side of Icrontic. From our “Hello World” post to yesterday’s breaking news, we have come a long, long way. Those jerks over at Blue have lots of traffic and content to lord over us, but we came back swinging with a great staff of writers, well-crafted content, and continuously evolving relationships with game publishers. Our trip to E3 in June was a major milestone for us, and things have just been getting better and better. Here are some of the highlights from the past year.

Remember…?

Ahhh those were the days…

Well, enough nostalgia, now on to the good stuff.

Like any kids at a birthday party, we know all you really care about is the swag bag that you get to take home with you. We have been blessed with some truly awesome partners and have been able to put together an amazing gaming PC to just give away to a lucky winner.

One lucky winner will receive:

This sucker’s gonna chew through any game you could possibly throw at it, with AMD’s top of the line CPU and GPU, one of the fastest mechanical HDs on the market, and some sexy accessories from NZXT. Let’s just say you won’t be needing an upgrade for a while. The parts will be arriving separately, so the winner is responsible for assembling the machine. Batteries not included, some assembly required, etc.

To be entered in the random drawing, all you have to do is be a registered member of Icrontic, and post a positive gaming or Icrontic-related experience in the comments; maybe a memory of a boss in an old NES game you beat in 1989, or that time that we thought Jackie was a nine-year-old girl in TF2.

On December 1st, 2009 we will pick a random name from the qualified entrants. Good luck!

Happy birthday to us…. Happy birthday to ussss……

  1. Kwitko
Kwitko Dixie Normous has fond memories of HL2 at ICLAN07.
  2. poofie
poofie remember that time i rubbed your scalp while you played Bloons? that was awesome.

or maybe that other time i won at Puerto Rico at EPIC 09? also awesome.

or how about i registered for this site because i joined the Icrontic WoW guild?
  3. GnomeQueen
GnomeQueen You actually all thought I was a 9 year old boy, heh.
  4. Ampersand
Ampersand One year eh? Seems to me it was about a year ago when prime first seduced me into his team fortress 2 server with promises of pick-a-nick baskets and home made ice cream. Since then his pillow talk whispers have convinced me to start lurking the forum and website, heck i might even get above fifty posts before the world ends in 2012.

Don't let your age go to your head icrontic gaming, you've still got fifteen years before you can pick me up in your mustang to take me to make-out point.
  5. Annes
Annes I remember at EPIC '09 when Jimmy had faith in me and chose me for his TF2 team. Then I played Heavy and we mowed bitches down. And we won.
  6. drasnor
drasnor I remember my first LAN party: I took my Macintosh Performa 6200CD over to my friend hpence's house and hooked it up on the floor of his room to his Power Macintosh... 6400 I think? No switches or routers, just a LocalTalk null-modem cable going from Printer port to Printer port. We played Descent and I got my ass kicked.

  7. BuddyJ
BuddyJ The other day at work I joined a TF2 server. Just some random pub mid day because our server was empty. It was terrible. Mic spamming, spawn camping, terrible sprays, with server messages popping up saying "Don't be a fag, donate and play here. All other servers are gay!" every minute.

No singing our way to victory, no fun banter with friends and new acquaintances, no playing just to enjoy the game.

There's a reason TF2 has remained popular with our community. It's not the free updates and evolving gameplay; it's because of our Community. We keep it FUN. I'd hate to be a player without a group as fun as us.
  8. _k
_k It still brings a tear to my eye thinking of the hours I spent in MW3, MechWarrior the only game that deserves the MW, jump jetting just over hills to launch 60 LRMs at some loser before I flanked him to snipe off his leg with my last PPC round. Those were a simpler times of alpha strikes, coolant flushes, and circle strafes full of pulse lasers. I love you MW and you will always have my heart and my first online gaming experience.

BUT, I have also fallen head over heels for IC and the family that has brought me in from the cold to teach me their ways. Its been a long time since I have felt so at home with an online community and I love every single one of you for it. Except Ampersand because he got scared when I wanted to come spend Spring Break with him.

  11. Koreish
Koreish I motion to have Ampersand removed from the contest. He has an unfair advantage of being Brian's mistress. :p
  12. Snarkasm
Snarkasm Oh Lord, Annes reminded me of the pure thrill of TF2 victory at LAN 08. Screams erupting after matches - forlorn from the losers, and exuberant from the victors. They were simpler, purer times, made wonderful and intense by the presence of friends and the spark of friendly competition.

God damn, that was one fantastic contest.
  13. Cliff_Forster
Cliff_Forster The best comment I can offer is this blog

Honestly, Icrontic's Epic Lan was the gaming highlight of my 2009. Hell, even a couple guys walked up and said "hey, you did not suck as bad as we thought you would". Seriously though, amazing event, to coordinate that all in a fairly modest backyard space took a hell of allot of effort, and sitting up till 4AM together that one night after the tent cleared entirely worth it. Good times.
  14. bindlestick
bindlestick I'll share another memory in a bit, but I first want to echo what Snarky said. TF2 at both IC LANs (that I've attended) has been the most intense TF2 I've experienced. Specific example: Expo 2009, 2 to 2 on 2Fort, the silence and intensity of both teams followed by the most ruckus yelling and hollering when the final capture happened. Glorious battles.

Also, I want to recall the first time I ever gamed with IC. Lynx and I knew nothing of IC at the time. We were playing TF2 together, and UPSHitman wanted Lynx to play with him because "i just found this server and these guys are awesome". Alas IC TF2 was full and after waiting a while we tried to get him to switch servers to play with us, to which he responded "no no, I'll get these guys to kick spots for you". So here I am thinking "Who are these people that they'd kick to make room for people they don't even know..wtf??"

After a night of amazing gaming, we discovered Icrontic.com. Two expos, an ICOK, and now many Minds of UPSLynx later, here we are. It's been amazing. Thanks to all of you.

Also, props to everyone that's contributed content and made gaming.icrontic what is over this first year. Content is king.
  15. Kwitko
Kwitko I used to trade pirated copies of Apple ][ games with friends. Ah, Captain Goodnight and the Islands of Fear, how I miss thee.
  16. pigflipper
pigflipper Gaming has always been an interesting part of Icrontic. Hell, the biggest thing to happen to the original IC was the FDLE raid on Mortin's house, all thanks to Counter-Strike and inept server administration. Who knew posting an official mirror of a new CS release could land you in jail?
  17. Winfrey
Winfrey I had been playing TF2 for a few weeks when I saw this discussion started by keebler. Before this I was little more than a friend of a friend who was involved in Icrontic. Little more than a lurker.

I meekly sent a request to primesuspect to get into the the Icrontic steam group. Prime of course accepted and we played many a glorious match on dustbowl and gravelpit. Since then I can't imagine life without Icrontic, except that it would include much less win.

There is one thing that I remember about our first few games together. While playing with fellow Icrontians I was using the {fxl} clan tag while rocket jumping people's faces off. Just a few days later, MYSTERIOUSLY, the Icrontic clan tag is agreed to be {IC}.

    Coincidence? I think not. ;D
  18. TiberiusLazarus
TiberiusLazarus Best gaming times I remember, besides some of our many awesome nights of tf2, were back in the dorms. Staying up until 3 or 4 in the morning pretty much nightly. Yelling down the halls, discussing CoH matches afterwards. Ahh, good times.

    Long live orange! :birthday:
  19. QCH
QCH Back when many of you guys were in grade school... I remember SM-LAN'03 when we had a 3 or 4 hour bombing run in UT2K4...

Or the sitting down in front of Papa Prime at his other house listening to the history of Icrontic/ Short-Media...

Or when this British Guy called Prime and asked to speak to me... it was Shorty calling from the UK.

Or when the grand prize drawing was the SM-LAN'03 Gaming Server... and I won it.

Flash Forward to 2004... I remember bringing my wife and 12 year old daughter to Prime's house to let my family meet my Icrontic Family.

Or, back in 2007, when we all showed up at OHP with Prime and Shorty... and we pulled off our shirts to show off our Prime and Shorty Family Reunion t-shirts. Or the snuggling with Prime...

Oh so many more memories in the 8 years I've been with Icrontic/Short-Media/Icrontic.
  20. _k

Traditions have been started. I win gaming challenges (save Left4Fail) and I get disqualified in the duct tape challenge. They will continue with EPIC10.

On that note, who wants to be on my duct tape challenge team :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D (:sad2:)
  26. MiracleManS
MiracleManS I remember the first time I met Prime, it was when Keebler (heretofore referred to as Lincoln) and I were headed to Canada for Spring Break.

I must say it was great to meet someone who would become a great friend from day one.

Agreed. The late nights of FEAR were epic as well. Walking down the halls ,back to my room, with no-one awake, hardly a sound. Creepy is the only word to describe it.
  29. UPSWeezer
UPSWeezer I remember the many great nights I spent playing TF2 with all you guys. I remember all your cries of anger and rage as I backstabbed you, showing no mercy.

Wow. I vaguely remember that! I remember reading the short little article Mortin posted after that happened. Anyone remember this as well? http://www.csnation.net/content/news.php?action=search&find=icrontic That was when Icrontic had some bawlz.

Not that IC doesn't has teh bawlz today. Today Icrontic have a different set of bawlz. Back then Icrontic's bawlz didn't give a F# and didn't think about consequences and the only obligation it had was to itself.

Today, Icrontic's bawlz are fully grown, a lot more refined, has a mortgage to pay, real responsibilities and a better eye on priorities.

The funny thing was, that when we finally got the "real" release, it worked just fine running on a server based on the "leaked" and "not final" copy.
  33. Idiot_Slayer
Idiot_Slayer I blame Winfrey for everything. He was the one who goaded me to join the TF2 server and later this community. Somehow the tendrils stuck and when I'm not toiling away at college course work I manage even to write articles for these people.

There is something special about Icrontic, good games, good people, good times.
  34. UPSLynx
UPSLynx Butters... that analysis of Icrontic's ballz is incredible.

This thread has put a huge smile on my face as I read through it at work, many of the stories causing me to errupt into laughter.

    Man I love this place.

I share a lot of these great memories already mentioned. The TF2 tourney in 08 was absolutely top tier gaming. Beyond intense.

I have to second the awesome experiences had in TF2, and like Bindle said, it is what brought me here, effectively changing my life.

Man. Team Fortress 2 changed my life.

Constructing Cock Goblin at LAN08 with Tiberiuslazarus and Weezer only to get DQ'ed for it being too big 'Like Lynx', as EggRoll yelled.

Both LAN08 and EPIC09 were outstanding, as well as ICSP 09, ICOK09, Winter Blast 09, crap, any time I've been to ICHQ has been memorable.

Eggroll showing me the ropes for using a fightstick to play fighters, which led me to an epic quest to build my own stick and master the ways (still a WIP)

Rock Band at Lan08 with Prime and Shorty (as Shorty sang songs, mic in one hand, scotch in the other)

I loved letting my house become a new halfway point by letting Canti crash, and at another time hosting Fatcat and Lincoln (as well as seeing Fatcat, Snark, and Annes before EXPO09).

ICSP09, learning via a slightly liquored up Jared, that whatever Jackie says, you must times it by bullsh*t

Becoming a tech writer... what can I say. I'm a storyteller who used to think that no one would ever want to listen to him. Icrontic changed that, and gave me an outlet to share my knowledge, and be challeneged anew.

    Mind of UPSLynx...

Heck, I HAVE to mention E3. One of the goals of my young life fullfilled, and it was an absolute blast. Playing unreleased games, meeting Doug Lombardi, walking the streets of my love, Los Angeles. Riding around the streets of downtown LA in a frigging limo with Primesuspect. Sitting on the ground outside of a gas station to eat subway with FRESH avacado in it with Primesuspect. Scotty and I texting in the bathroom, Meeting Sledge, watching CB tear up the Fallout 3 expansion while one of the developers chatted it up with us, Rob and Olivia inviting us into their home on the last night and sharing their coffee tequilla with us. E3 is one of the greatest memories of my recent life.

And then there's SIGGRAPH. My favorite week out of each year. This year I went on behalf of media for Icrontic and covered the event. Chris White and I got to interview a buch of high level people, which eventually landed us a FirePro v8750 for the testbench, and that led to many great new opportunities with hardware vendors.

Being the first to review and publish about Shattered Horizon was pretty swank.

and for a non-IC related gaming memory: one of my favorite memories in gaming was the relase of Smash Bros Brawl. My brother, (]UPS[ Hitman), and I used to play the smash games to DEATH growing up. We mastered the first two games, and we would call each other daily to talk about the recently released updates for Brawl in the days preceeding it's release. But these days, he is married and lives 3 hours away, so I knew we wouldn't have times together playing Brawl like we once did. The day the game came out, I decided to visit him. I drove up late at night the day prior to the release and met him at work. After he got off work at midnight, we drove to a store, waited, and bought the game at release. We went to his home, and we played the game until we beat it, going to bed around 6:30am. We had so much fun, and it reminded me of the old days. It's one of my favorite memories.

Ok, I think that's enough for now. <3 you, Icrontic, and long live Orange (LOL BLUE SUX)

  38. Koreish
Koreish My fondest gaming memory was way back when I was 7 and I was at my church "garage" sale. After searching through aisles aisles of things people didn't want I found something of interest. An NES system sitting by itself on the table, no cords, no games, no controllers. I walked out of there $2 dollars poorer, but with the biggest grin a kid could have. Over the next week I had bought all the necessary things needed to play. And my first game? The gold edition of Zelda, shit yeah.

As for my first IC gaming experience, it was just after TF2 was released. I was walking past Winfrey's room and he was sing-speaking while playing. I stood at his door and laughed asking what he was doing. "It's opera night. We have to sing everything." After several weeks of watching Jimmy, Winfrey, and Kevin playing I finally convinced Jimmy to let me play on his computer. I sucked, sucked so much he changed his name to {IC}Someone else. Only one person commented on it. {IC}Winfrey "Well that explains it" One month later I joined in as Koreish.

    TL; DR: IC rocks.

HAHAHA I remember that now. Man that seems like so long ago now. Have we really been playing tf2 for 2 years?
  40. rolleggroll
rolleggroll My fondest memory of IC gaming was when I was introduced to the word "shart" when Prime accidently (was it really accidental?) sharted and announced it to the whole server while playing TF2.

Another great memory was when I was playing TF2 on the IC server when suddenly an earthquake struck. I was still healing someone as I ducked under the table while screaming for my life. I felt my monitor fall on top of the table. People thought I was joking.

Lastly, drunken Rock Opera/Ballad singing during TF2 which ultimately turned the tide of the match and allowed us to "eggroll" the entire team on Dustbowl.

    Ah, of course! Fixt!

Eggroll- The earthquake was hilarious. I remember CB also experiencing a tornado while playing, he took shelter and we could hear the sirens through teamspeak. It was pretty funny (well, funny as soon as we realized he was OK).

Opera night, (or any singing nights on TF2) was classic. Man, how do we do it? Singing while playing is hysterical. We should have another soon.
    Butters wrote:

I didn't add them as Prime had already kind-of covered them in the OP, but going with Sledge and the rest of CORE during E3 to visit Pandemic studios was a highlight of my life. The first ever game studio I got to step foot in. I was like a kid in a candy store. And despite it being after-hours and no one was working (so I couldn't explore and see it all in action), I remember walking to the huge window of their 20-something floor office which overlooked the City of Angels illuminated in the dark California night, and looking upon it I realized how fortunate I was. Living the dream.

And then got to play the game before anyone else in the world. Pretty sweet.

And those Pandemic guys are awesome, the are totally passionate about their product. I remember as I played, I crashed my car in a chase sequence and got lost running through Farmland. They saw me, and told me to attack the next cow I came across, so I did, and the cow errupted into an absurd amount of blood and gore. A little treat that the developers were playing around with in the pre-Alpha build we were playing. The room errupted into laughter.
  43. ZenMode
ZenMode I remember the first time I raided Lord Nagafen in classic EQ. It was an amazing experience, I had never been in a raid prior to that day - but that single event set in motion the craving that would drive me to raid in every EQ expansion, FFXI, and later WoW.

The only sour note of the whole ordeal was a level 53 Barbarian Rogue complaining because he couldn't enter the lair and "help" - dude was still using two steel daggers. This did, however, make the whole scene rather hilarious - as a group of 40 people were in combat with the AoE-breathing, Flame Rain casting Lord Nafagen - all the while this broliath of a rogue is constantly attempting to run into the room and join the battle only to be teleported just outside time after time.

When the dust settled, he asked if he could roll on the cloak...

    lol

    Lame story... ;D
  46. jared
jared For me there are 4 really distinct gaming and/or Icrontic memories.

I remember the first PC game I got addicted to, LIKE CRACK, was Tribes. That game and all of its modded goodness consumed my life for a while. To this day it was still one of the most fun games I've played.

Secondly, I remember getting addicted to Counter-Strike some where around beta 7. Unfortuantly that was an addiction that was never broken. In 1.1 I started playing "competitively" on a few CAL teams. Had so much fun doing that I made a 4 year run at attending CPL events in Dallas, which at the time were probably the biggest competitive events in the Country other than Quakecon. I remember reading GotFrag 500 times a day. To this day I still read GotFrag occasional and keep up with a few "pro" teams. CS introduced me to the competitive side of gaming and man did I get hooked.

The third thing is playing TF2 with the Icrontic crew.
When TF2 was released I held out on buying the game for a few months. I had just started a new job and figured I getting addicted to another game was the last thing I needed. At the same time I was reading that TF2 didn't have big "competitive / pro" aspect to the game (versus say counter-strike) so I was hesistant.

To make a long story short about September of 08 I got *really* sick with mono. Like on the verge of not being able to function sick. I credit Icrontic and TF2 (literally) with helping get me through this time and not sinking into depression. If I wasn't at work or sleeping I was on my PC in IRC and TF2 - it's all I could do. It make me look on the bright side of things depsite how terrible I felt. I could always count on logging into the server and having Fatcat telling me to go f*ck a cow or other randomness.

Seriously guys, you kept me sane during those long 4-5 months, and I appreciate it.

Lastly, I have fond memories at ICHQ just like everyone else.
The ones that stand out though are my first visit/day at ICHQ, meeting everyone IRL. It was just awesome.
COJ 2008 was something I'll never forget. And drinking a whole damn bottle of Bulliet with Shorty.

    Ah, the memories.

Best time has to be the epic SMLan 04 bombing run match, but there's never a bad night in the Icrontic TF2 server.

  51. NiGHTS
NiGHTS While TF2's "singing to victory" is always a highlight in itself, my most enjoyable gaming memory was playing with the WoW crew. I can honestly say I would never have played the game for as long as I did without the half dozen members that logged in night after night with me.

I got to e-meet IC members I had not talked to and develop stronger relationships with those I had. It was during a low point in my life, which made getting away from it with you guys that much sweeter. From laughing hysterically to the point of tears, to hawking fruit and other various pointless wares, to riding BROKEN PNOIES, to xtreme cliff diving, to impersonations of everyone and everything, to baking my Victory Peanut Butter Cookies (TM) when I found out I landed a new job, to ... you get the idea. It was a hell of a time, and something that constantly brings a smile to my face whenever I think about it.

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about it is my inability to find the words to share the feeling of it all.

In any case, I look forward to trying to get that feeling back with all the new games Orange happens to run across. Happy Birthday, Orange!
  52. primesuspect
primesuspect Man those were some good times. Many times, late at night, I'll sit here and think nostalgically about playing with you guys. We sure did have some fun :D

    HALP
  53. Alidra
Alidra I remember getting our SNES. It was a joint gift for my bothers and I, which provided many years of "He's been on it for a hour already... Moooooooommmmm!!!!!" Tons of time playing Mario Paint, and Aladdin. It's where I fell in love with Nintendo, and many video games to come.

My second bit here is about my first raid in WoW. I raided Kara with a terabad all female toon guild... I promptly hated raiding, and if it weren't for Thrax and ZenMode, I would have never craved end game content... Much love boys.
  54. GHoosdum
GHoosdum I remember how pure the gaming experience was back in the '90s. Games didn't need lifelike graphics when the concepts were new. Wolfenstein and Doom defined the FPS experience. I fondly remember the first time a pink demon snuck up on me and began to chew my face off. I literally jumped out of my seat.

I also remember the frustration of early multiplayer experiences. For example, trying to play Warcraft with CrazyJoe. Setting my modem up to dial his house, and every time, EVERY TIME, hearing his brother's tinny voice coming from my PC case, "Hello?" and then Joe shouting, "I told you not to pick up the phone!"

It might seem strange to be nostalgic about the interrupted play, but these are things that just don't happen like this any more. The technology grew up alongside us.
  55. _k
_k Oh gosh playing Red Alert Aftermath with my friend and having to go through the same thing. We both had 2 phone lines so we could talk while stuff was going on but it was always a 10 minute job to get the timing right for connections. Incredible times that some people will never know.
  56. CB
CB I remember lugging my rig across the neighborhood on my skateboard, so that I could play Doom deathmatch with a buddy over a nul-modem cable that we made ourselves (not from scratch, we started with a regular serial cable). It was my first 'LAN-party'.
  57. Zadok
Zadok Positive gaming memory? Well there are plenty to chose from but for this purpose I will tell you of the epic A&B VS C Battle.

Basically my freshmen year of college UPSLynx and Syamagoose got into a propaganda war over which Tetris music was the best. UPSLynx taking the side of C music and Syamagoose fighting for A&B music. Their shenanigans ranged from incriminating photos and full length smear articles to Syamagoose's computer being hacked so that it would play C music that couldn't be turned off. Innocent bystanders where even dragged into this mire of hate and the names and reputations of both Princess Peach and Victoria Everglot where sullied in this struggle for musical supremacy. In the end a truce had to be called to avoid the complete destruction of a third of the known universe. (actually I don't remember why the truce was called.)

*sigh* College Gaming Memories. Good times.

man, I can still hear my mom like it was yesterday! "Bobby, get off the internet, I have to call your grandma!" Single phone lines for the win!

(She still calls the collective PC the 'modem')

Zadok - oooh man, you dare bring out A and B vs. C??? That's a story for the ages, one of the most fun times I had in college. I would plan my attacks weeks in advance, and spend HOURS photoshoping propaganda just to post on his wall.

Lord, I'd love to be able to share all of those.

I won that battle, there was no truce. I faked Syamagoose into thinking he had the upper hand. I ended up blackmailing him with a princess dress with the letter B on it, and spinning a massive web about how he acted as Princess Peach and killed Victoria Everglott, blaming C music for the act and framing the real princess.

He was speechless when I revealed that to him.

Thanks for bringing that up! classic!

By the way, for anyone wondering, "C Type" was the superior tetris music.
  59. CrazyJoe
CrazyJoe Oh one of my favorite gaming memories is definitely playing Warcraft with GHoosdum and CBDroege and getting interrupted by my brothers. It was quite agravating, but we laugh about it now.
  60. Winfrey
Winfrey Here's a pic of me at my first LAN party. I didn't have my own computer so my friends put this one together before my eyes. Gamed all night on this bad boy and without any crashes either.

  62. loklomedia
loklomedia I remember my first "console" was a C64... playing some old Ghostbusters game (which I sucked at), a spider man game ("My spidey sense is tingling"), and some other side scrolling COLOR fly through space and shoot things game that I actually beat. I don't beat many games. Then I graduated to my 286 with Dos 4, playing good ol' Captain Comic (which I beat) and the shareware versions of Commander Keen, then onto King's Quest 1. And I'm only 30.

Now that I have a beast of a computer, relatively speaking, I don't game at all, except on my iPhone... but even then it's tap tap revenge. But if I were to play a game, it'd be Unreal Tourney 2003 CTF versus bots.

I found out about ICrontic via twitter and I think google a couple weeks ago, trying to find a comparo between ATI firepro v3750 and Radeon HD 4870 for 3DS Max... to see if I should crossgrade. Hoping for that review to come...

    Otherwise, great site. :)

That was a pretty good moment. But beating dungeon keeper as a wee teen was also a massive achievement for me.
  64. Spampy
Spampy I met Prime, Lincoln, and a few other guys once in a pubbie TF2 game, and they were really cool doods and I'd never been in a real playgroup of any sort before. I healed like a mofo and me and prime were a force. After that, I asked how to join IC on steam and he invited me to the group and just told me to join the forums and the group and I was one of the gang. Icrontians are my favorite bunch to play with in TF2, and with my new Windows 7 installation I plan to get back into the habit!
  65. Dunigan
Dunigan My gaming experiences have been limited in my lifetime...as my mother saw fit to limit them when we were children...but going to college and meeting Bobby Miller(UPSLynx) quickly changed that. I spent hours upon hours sitting on our living room couch with Bobby's PC mirrored onto my television. This is where I went to gaming school, learning of such games as Half Life, and Half Life 2. Seeing Team Fortress for the first time...and death match. Sometimes he would even let me do the smack talking...haha...imagine that...I watched on in envy as he played Half Life 2 for 15 hrs straight...thinking...when I grow up...I want a PC so I can play games like that. For every year we lived together there was a new game...a new challenge...a new viewing experience for me. Some of my favorite memories come from trying my hand at destroying cars in FlatOut...or doing my best to stay alive in online Death match. But, my favorite memory was the day Bobby and I combined our intellectual forces to create the Gravinade. A unique way of chucking a grenade across the map using the gravity gun. It was deadly...and very effective.

So, where my childhood gaming experience may be lacking...I graduated from college with a minor in PC gaming. Learning as much as I could in the 3 short years I live with Bobby. I can only hope that someday I will take that knowledge and put it to good use. I feel that I am one step closer after Bobby introduced me to this AWESOME community! But, you can read more about my take on Icrontic in the life section. :-)

  68. Thrax
Thrax It's not often that I get the chance to game with Icrontic members (as I don't much like TF2), so I was really happy to sit down over the last few weeks and play some Super Mario Bros. Wii with Alidra, ZenMode, Prime and Keebler.

Even though I don't appreciate the Wii or Nintendo very much (not my style), they've created a masterpiece with that game, and it's definitely a title that needs to be experienced with multiple people. I honestly have not had that much fun with a console game since battling away for DAYS in Goldeneye 64 when I was in middle school... Playing NSMBW with people from Icrontic reminded me how fun consoles can be, and how important it is to play them with other people. That's where the magic is: Friends.
  69. Petra
Petra Hmm... gaming memories.... Well, I remember the last time you guys had a LAN which, of course, I couldn't make it out to. I sat at home and played Gary's Mod...alone.

Total blast!! <3 The best part is throwing people off cliffs!
  71. Butters
Butters I remember playing Doom for the first time when it came out, it must have been around '93-94, I must have been around 12-13. My older brother had a PC that was running win 3.11 and I remember always waiting for him to leave so I can play it, I truly, truly miss those days when you can switch from DOS and go back into windows 3.11. Anyway, I remember the last boss so fondly I wrote a paper on beating him a couple years later as a Frosh in High School. I think I got a B on that paper, lol.

LOL, how could I forget playing Leisure Suit Larry, Land of the Lounge Lizards. I remember I'd have to guess a on a bunch of questions before you I could play (for 18yo verification). I was such a perv. Spiro Agnew - one of the answers - I think should change my username to that.

Also I remember in High School I loaded Grand Theft Auto into a couple of the computers used for AutoCad. The drafting teacher didn't care. I vaguely remember if there was multiplayer or if it was on GTA2, that was fun as all hell, especially at school.

Another fond memory was when I, no longer was a LAN Party virgin. I had just bought a brand spanking new PC from one of those old "computer show and sale" events, and was armed with a TNT2 16mb. I soon was introduced to Counter-Strike and subsequently Icrontic had awesome coverage of CS. I remember not knowing what the hell I was doing, and someone yelling out, "Blaster!, what the hell are you doing Blaster!"
  72. UPSWeezer
UPSWeezer How could I almost forget about "Rock Van!" Lynx, Kingpin, Bindlestick and I drove up to LAN 08 playing Rock Band in my mom's minivan. That was epic!

shwaip Thanks Icrontic, and all the companies that donated hardware for this awesome system. It's an awesome upgrade to my current system in almost every way, the only thing that's remotely "better" on my current system is I have 8GB of ram, but it's slower, and I probably hardly use more than 4.

I think my 8800GTS is dying as well, so this really is great. I'll have to try out crysis on this machine, so I can finally see what it looks like on the highest settings. I wonder if I can even raise the settings on TF2 any higher...
