AMD’s Phenom X4 9950, 9350e and 9150e Processors
Hot on the heels of the release of its very successful 4000 series graphics cards, AMD has released three new Phenom processors into their lineup. The first is a new top model, the Phenom 9950 “Black Edition”. Operating at 2.6GHz, it is the fastest Phenom processor released to date. Interestingly, this is the processor everyone was looking forward to seeing at Phenom’s launch back in November, but was never released. Better late than never, I suppose.
I’ll be the first to admit that a simple 100MHz boost over AMD’s 9850 did not get me very excited. I was, however, happy to see the other two models in AMD’s lineup—the 9350e and 9150e. As you have probably already guessed, the lower case “e” denotes an energy efficient model. Clocking in a 2.0GHz and 1.8GHz respectively, they are not going to be breaking any speed records, but with a TDP of only 65W, they have some much more appealing uses in the mainstream.
