Overclocking
This wouldn’t be an Icrontic review without pushing something beyond its intended specification. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a lot of time to complete this review, so I wouldn’t consider this to be a ‘final’ result.
In the short period of time I had, I did manage a 400MHz increase with a small 0.1V vCore boost. Not bad! I’m sure that with some more time, a better result could be had.
Power Consumption
Since AMD calls the 9350e an energy efficient processor, it is only fair to put it to the test and see how it fares against some other processors. Obviously the Intel and AMD results will not be apples-to-apples due to varying motherboards and chipsets—not to mention a completely different architecture. Please keep in mind that all tests were conducted with an 8800GTS 640MB graphics card with the exception of the single IGP test (the first listed below). Multiple instances of Prime95 were used to load each CPU.
So there you have it. Considerably more energy efficient than AMD’s X3 8750 and even the 6000+ dual core. AMD’s reduction of the core voltage and frequency has certainly made a difference. Impressive as well, however, is Intel’s Q6600. Although 10-20 watts above the X4 9350e, its ‘performance per watt’ measurement would be quite a bit higher.
