Raptr upgrades community tools

Raptr LogoToday Raptr, the social gaming service, rolled out a new, more streamlined look for their community site to make it easier to use.

Raptr’s community manager Casey Scheld wrote a blog post detailing some of the changes as well as upcoming community events to help celebrate

Dedicated gamers spend as much time talking about games as we do playing them. Raptr understands this, and so we’ve redesigned our newsfeed to make it easier to chat and learn about the games you love. With the new format we’re giving you more ways to discuss, strategize, and comment on the games you play…or can’t wait to get back to playing.

Thanks to Raptr’s new discussion format, we’re kicking off a string of community events right here on Raptr.com, where you can interact with game creators, notable industry personalities, and fellow fans. Our goal is to bring you tools, features, and events to help connect you to the most interesting conversations happening in gaming, the most relevant content, and the most notable people. Stay tuned for more details coming soon!

The new posting interface makes it easier to link to content and find news about the games you care about. Of course, since this is Raptr, the games you own and play are naturally going to rise to the top.

Raptr is continuing the march forward to position themselves as one of the premiere social networks for PC gamers. With their highly successful Raptr Rewards program and their content curation tools, it looks as though they may just pull it off.

PirateNinja Not to be a negative nancy, but I'm ready to uninstall Raptor. I don't get the advantage of having it to begin with short of if you are really .. reallllly ... interested in being like "hey I play this game more than you do" ... then there is no point. The "rewards" they offer are generally just offers that you can get direct through publisher or distributor anyway. It's neat and all, but the value gained by the consumer for using it over the actual value generated seems lopsided to me. I'll be surprised to see these guys make it more than two more years.

primesuspect They just had a reward for a free import PSN title a couple of days ago.

PirateNinja I do wish I could say that meant something to me.

primesuspect It may not, but the point is there are rewards other than just discounts. It's a new program.

Ilriyas I uninstalled Raptr little over a week ago for a few reasons, the primary of which was that Raptr doesn't seem to be compatible with many games, the Thief series and the STALKER series are two prime examples, in the case of Thief there would be a shadow of my mouse flailing around the screen and in the case of the STALKER games the engine would just refuse to boot while Raptr was enabled.

There was also a strange issue with Skyrim where my mouse pointer would show up whenever I moved my mouse to the left of the screen, an issue which was resolved when I disabled, and promptly uninstalled Raptr.

That and as @PirateNinja pointed out most of the awards offered weren't compelling enough to get me to continue using the service and I was getting tired of it constantly telling me 'You are third on your friends list' or 'you just surpassed your friends in playtime.'

RahnalH102 From what I have experienced, Raptor's client does have an overlay issue with some games and can conflict with the engine of certain games when certain criteria are met. But the solution is simple, don't have the client on if you play those games. If said games are mostly through Steam or you have Xfire then you won't even need the client anyways since the site will just grab the data from those two.

To me that would be the main factual con to Raptor, it just isn't fully complete, but there are ways to manage.

For the most part I'm cool with Raptor. I'm a science nerd and love copious amounts of data and analyzing said data. "Honey, can you make me one of your special graphs for dinner?" Don't know why but I do. So the stats interest me in that regard. The feeds have been hit and miss. have kept me in the loop, gave me a few laughs, and more. However they can get easily spammed to hell on some games. This new update helps with that though so we'll see how that works out in this regard. The Rewards feature (which I feel is either a positive or negative opinion depending on who you ask) has provided me with some good deals, opportunities, and rewards I do care about. No it's not perfect, but this feature is still in beta phase.

Howdy, Stranger!
