REDkit revealed – a new mod toolset for The Witcher 2

Redkit mod engine for The Witcher 2

Polish developer CD Projekt RED have been busy at this years Gamescom—but between pimping their GOG.com digital distribution platform and trawling for talent to work on their new Cyberpunk title they found the time to unveil REDkit— a brand new mod engine for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.

“Designed to create […] mature, non-linear and engrossing stories set in vivid worlds filled with believable characters” and boasting the ability create entirely new, detailed environments complete with “complex, nonlinear quests”, REDkit is set to put some serious content creation powers in the hands of ordinary gamers. Of course creating user-friendly tools of this calibre isn’t going to be particularly cheap, quick or easy for CD Projekt RED, but it’s a move that could pay dividends, given how fanworks in The Elder Scrolls or Fallout have succeeded in keeping gamers engaged years after the title’s release.

If you’re an aspiring modder looking to dabble in something new, head on over to the REDkit site before the end of September and apply for a spot in the closed beta.
