Valve just announced that Steam has grown beyond games, and with that, their software store has launched.
The lineup is light, featuring only seven titles, but this will undoubtedly grow very quickly.
Apps featured on the Steam software store will also feature Steamworks integraton including automatic updating and Steam Cloud saves. The store will offer applications for both Mac and Windows.
The seven applications currently available are:
- ArtRage Studio Pro
- CameraBag 2
- GameMaker: Studio
- 3D-Coat
- 3DMark Vantage
- 3DMark 11
These applications range from free to $89.10. We’ll most likely see Steam’s very successful “Sales” model applied to applications, and publishers will probably jump at the chance to get their software Green Light-ed on Steam because it will introduce many older or less-than-popular applications to a larger audience.
Steam Software is available immediately.
