Steam summer sale is absurd and shut up and take our money, Valve

Steam Summer SaleThe Steam Summer Sale is finally here. This is the time of the year where thousands of gamers have a delightful smirk on their face thinking about the countless new hours of gaming ahead—and the dread their wallet has of waking up in a seedy motel not remembering how it left the party but it has a strong feeling something terrible happened in the night.

What would be a sale without hats a good party theme. This year everyone can return to their youth and the pleasure of being dumped off at summer camp and being forced to experience the joy of the outdoors, outdoors not included. Everything is off to a splendid start with games ranging from Oblivion, Test Drive 2, Borderlands, Medal of Honor, and Back to the Future (the game, duh). My pick of the day will have to fall with Solar 2 on sale for $4.99. This game gives you the chance to make planets, stars, life, and solar systems. When you get bored with it you can hurtle yourself into other celestial bodies and watch everything explode, or simply turn into a black hole and watch the universe disappear.

As many of us that have experienced Steam’s week long sales know, figuring out how to pace yourself and still not miss all of the games that make your heart flutter when you buy them—as if it was the perfect gift on Christmas—is extremely important. To help all of us with that there is the Steam Prize Booth, where if you complete certain challenges in specific games you will win a ticket that can be placed into a jar for a random drawing. A hundred people will win the top ten games on their wishlist. Tickets must be redeemed during the Steam Summer Camp Sale. Sadly TF2 isn’t on sale today. Good thing it’s now free.

The standard packs are heavily discounted as well—you know, in case you were needing the Valve collection or still felt the need…The Need for Speed (Maverick you can be my wing man any time). If you are having trouble keeping track of everything going on try hitting up the gaming section of Reddit. The Steam Summer Sale post will be plastered to their front page for the whole week.

On a side note, the Steam Store will be pounded every day by heavy user traffic. Be patient if something does not load and try again shortly.

Happy gaming, Icrontic!

Thrax Just remember kids, only dolts (me) buy games with a ton of DLC before the GoTY edition is released, which includes the DLC, for the same price as the non-GoTY version. Don't be that dolt (me).

//EDIT: SLick with that Google +1 at the end.

_k Everyone gets a free chance at being one of the 100 to win their top 10 from their wishlist. Joining the Steam Summer Camp Official Group gets you a ticket without having to own anything or play a game.

  9. CrazyJoe
CrazyJoe Gamersgate also has Civ V on sale for $17 today. It activates on Steam. If you do not have this version it is well worth $17.

Cliff_Forster So, my bet is that on July 4th everything in the Mann Company store is half off, and there will be some odd ball exclusive hat for making a purchase, probably a rocket, or an Uncle Sam hat or something.

I am not against this. Got my Glasses yesterday (TF2 Item ticket redemption), prob continue to play the games for more tickets. As my game library grows, it gets easier and easier to make it through these sales without breaking the bank or playing the games 24/7.

Does anyone know if the achievements from previous days are still valid? (For example if anyone joins the Steam group today will they still get a ticket?)
