The Steam Summer Sale is finally here. This is the time of the year where thousands of gamers have a delightful smirk on their face thinking about the countless new hours of gaming ahead—and the dread their wallet has of waking up in a seedy motel not remembering how it left the party but it has a strong feeling something terrible happened in the night.
What would be a sale without hats a good party theme. This year everyone can return to their youth and the pleasure of being dumped off at summer camp and being forced to experience the joy of the outdoors, outdoors not included. Everything is off to a splendid start with games ranging from Oblivion, Test Drive 2, Borderlands, Medal of Honor, and Back to the Future (the game, duh). My pick of the day will have to fall with Solar 2 on sale for $4.99. This game gives you the chance to make planets, stars, life, and solar systems. When you get bored with it you can hurtle yourself into other celestial bodies and watch everything explode, or simply turn into a black hole and watch the universe disappear.
As many of us that have experienced Steam’s week long sales know, figuring out how to pace yourself and still not miss all of the games that make your heart flutter when you buy them—as if it was the perfect gift on Christmas—is extremely important. To help all of us with that there is the Steam Prize Booth, where if you complete certain challenges in specific games you will win a ticket that can be placed into a jar for a random drawing. A hundred people will win the top ten games on their wishlist. Tickets must be redeemed during the Steam Summer Camp Sale. Sadly TF2 isn’t on sale today. Good thing it’s now free.
The standard packs are heavily discounted as well—you know, in case you were needing the Valve collection or still felt the need…The Need for Speed (Maverick you can be my wing man any time). If you are having trouble keeping track of everything going on try hitting up the gaming section of Reddit. The Steam Summer Sale post will be plastered to their front page for the whole week.
On a side note, the Steam Store will be pounded every day by heavy user traffic. Be patient if something does not load and try again shortly.
Happy gaming, Icrontic!
