Every week, without fail, Icrontic reporter CB Droege brings us the most interesting video game releases of the week. He’s been doing this for years, never faltering, and always with sincere interest in distilling and sharing what’s best with this community—but that’s not all; he also does a great many things for Expo Icrontic every year, from running most of the boardgaming, to helping organize the prize giveaways, and more. There’s a lot of reasons he’s the 2012 Icrontic Man of the Year.
Four years ago he starting running a Dungeons & Dragons campaign for a small group of Icrontians. We used Skype and Fantasy Grounds software to play in CB’s then-developing campaign world, which is called The Isles of the Sun. Over the years, we took our game from newly-created numbers on a sheet to well-developed characters with histories, backgrounds, distinct personalities, and traits both lovable and reviled. Our characters were able to grow and flourish because CB’s world that was being created around us was increasingly more detailed and immersive every week.
After four years of world-building, CB is ready to release his campaign world, and he is using Kickstarter to fund it.
I spent four years in the Isles, and it is a tremendously well-developed campaign world, filled with distinctive and memorable personalities, solid and believable geo-politics, intrigue, mystery, dangers, and wonders. The mythology and background is fascinating and fantastic. This place is a joy to run adventures in.
If you’re interested in D&D at all, are a veteran player or a brand-new one, please consider funding The Isles of the Sun. It is suitable for any d20 campaign and with little trouble could be adapted to other systems (Pathfinder, D&D4E, even D&D5E). For the modest donation levels, you’ll be not only getting a fantastic campaign world, you’ll also be supporting the deeply creative endeavors of a very talented man. Also, he’s an Icrontian, so DO IT.
