Dell Puts $100 Bounty On iPods

Dell wants your old iPod and is willing to pay to get it.

The Round Rock, Texas, PC maker on Wednesday unveiled an offer that grants music player customers a $100 rebate on a 15GB Digital Jukebox when they send it an Apple Computer iPod music player to be recycled. The rebate, available only on the 15GB Dell Digital Jukebox, is designed to woo would-be repeat iPod buyers and also to raise the profile of the Dell DJ versus the iPod. Apple’s iPod, now in its third year, is the leading portable music player.

They are very good at doing the job they are designed to do. The problem lies in the fact that there have been many documented failures of its rechargeable battery - which cannot be replaced. Apple's response was to tell you to buy a new ipod.

(I believe I read somewhere that they are changing that policy.)

Holy cow! That's plain and simple arrogance and abuse of customers. And isn't it interesting that Microsoft is the firm labeled as a monopoly! I've often wondered what businesses such as IBM, Intel, or General Motors would be like if a personality such as Jobs ran them.

If even a car battery costs $100, it had better be an Optima dry-cell! I haven't spent more than $60 on a car battery, ever.
