In name dispute, it’s Googles vs. Google

   8 Jul 2004 ~ 12:14pm Leonardo I don't yet know the facts on this case, but it somehow smells of money grubbing. Perhaps if Googles had trademarked their name first, they might have a legitimate case. Whaddaya bet though, Googles is going under and this is their last grasp at staying solvent?

   8 Jul 2004 ~ 7:41pm profdlp I don't have any more specific facts than the previous posters, but there are many cases where two disparate companies who share a similarity of names reach an agreement where as long as neither is engaged in the same type of business they leave each other alone.
   
   The classic case of circumstance changing an agreement of this type is the recent Apple v. Apple suit where the music company got a little bent out of shape when the computer company began their itunes service.
   
   Still, it does strike me as opportunism on Googles' part.

   8 Jul 2004 ~ 7:53pm Leonardo OK, I actually read the news article. Apparently Googles did trademark their name before Google did. Interesting enough, Google sued an unrelated site named, Boobles, for having a name too close to Google. Maybe I'll root for the little guy in this case.
