Infineon to cut back 50% on DDR chips

Infineon Technologies will reduce its DDR supply by around 50% in April from 50 million 256Mbit-equivalent units in March, according to sources in the industry. If true, supply in the global DRAM market is set to tighten even further.

[blockquote]Rumors suggest that Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP) have been buying large amounts of DRAM chips in Taiwan. Sources at companies that buy from Infineon pointed out that some of the DRAM supplier’s salespersons have been taking early Easter holidays because of the lack of DRAM chips.

1. Enverex
Enverex Good riddance, all they make is crappy RAM that barely reaches its rated speed.
2. mmonnin
mmonnin But if there isnt that crappy RAM to go into pre-built systems then the demand will do to other RAM manufactures. RAM is going up.
3. Leonardo
Leonardo It's a cyclical thing. Sort of a cabal, like OPEC, the manufacturers tend to reign in production whenever they sense their pricepoints won't be lucrative enough. Fortunately, the RAM producers are not as organized as OPEC.

TheSmJ Yeah, I should prolly order that stick of RAM next paycheck (Friday).
