Intel not interested in Windows 98 or ME

It has been reported that Intel’s New Grantsdale and Alderwood chipsets will not run on Windows 98 or ME. Tough luck for the minority.

It’s a surprise that Intel is not going to support Microsoft Windows Me and 98 because Microsoft decided to offer more support for its earlier operating systems due to delays in the launch of Longhorn, Microsoft’s next generation Operating System.

Grandsdale and Alderwood chipsets commercial names are i925X, i915P for discrete and i915G for the one with integrated graphics.

mmonnin Im not interested in 98 or ME anyway. I wouldnt think many computers with those parts would have one of those OSs on them anyway.

primesuspect You guys always look at things through the filter of "computer geekdom" --- I'll tell you one company who's interested in Windows 98 - GM (General Motors). They have xx,xxx licenses of Windows 98. There are plenty of big companies that have tons and tons of money invested in Win98.....

Camman Kind of funny to see the backlash MS gets when they announced they were going to stop support old OS's, but the same doesn't happen when Intel announces their new chips won't support older versions of Windows...
