LGA775 Prescotts, Grantsdale & Alderwood In June

Intel upcoming Alderwood and Grantsdale chipsets are scheduled for launch during Computex Taipei in June and the LGA775 Prescotts are expected to be launched at the same time, according to sources from the motherboard manufacturers.

As we have heard, Intel is pushing Alderwood to support DDR2-667 when the specification is ready which will become one of major difference between a Alderwood and Grantsdale but it won’t be ready anytime soon. One of the criteria to support DDR2-667 is that the PCB design has to be modified and also improvements have to be made to the DDR-2 667 spec like additional ODT value, improved AC timing values and tighter AC/DC operating conditions.

Leonardo This first generation of Intel's support to DDR2 is not expected to raise the performance much, if any. Seems Intel committed too early to DDR2 implimentation and is too far down the development path to back out. I'm sure though, with some splashy "DDR2 Technology" stickers on off-the-shelf computers, and glitzy TV advertisements, the new hardware will sell well.
