Firefox Blazes New Browser

A test version of a new Firefox browser is now available. New features include improved pop-up advertisement blocking and faster back and forward Web navigation features, and added support for Mac OS X.

Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1 is now available for download. This is the first release candidate of our next generation Firefox browser, to be released later this year, and it is being made available to our developer and testing community for compatibility testing and to solicit feedback.

Note: This is not the final release of our Web browser, it has been made available for testing purposes only, with no end-user support. If that sounds scary, you’d probably be better off with the latest version of Firefox 1.0.

3 Nov 2005 ~ 11:06pm sfleuriet Oh wow forget that - I don't like it. It's not compatible with RoboForm (which I use religiously) OR my Silver theme that I've been using. Out with the new one, and back in with the old 1.0.7.

I noticed the same thing. No Roboform and no GoogleToolbar. It'll probably take a week for both of them to catch up. The odd thing is that their websites both show that they have extentions that will work with FF 1.5.
5 Nov 2005 ~ 9:27pm Trumandrummer well i had a couple extensions and themes that i really liked. that didnt work with the firfox beta 2 (this is why im not downloading this new one yet). so i uninstalled beta 2 and went to instal the 1.0.7 and all was going fine until the page loads and all the buttons (back ,stop,home,forword and more) were only text. and alot of stuff was messed up. so now im stuck on with beta 2.
9 Nov 2005 ~ 8:22pm BLuKnight FYI. Roboform released some updates. They now work with FireFox 1.5 RC1. No word on GoogleBar yet however, GoogleBar Lite does work.

11 Nov 2005 ~ 9:09pm Trogan New FireFox version from my point of view:

- The interface of FireFox remains the same, although I thought it would have changed a little.

- Web pages seem to load quicker for me.

- The popup blocker has improved since the older versions but it is not fully popup "safe" as I had a popup, upon visiting a Safe Site.

- FireFox gives some basic advice on what to do if you mistype a URL or a site cannot be reached, intsead of the "The webpage timed out" like in previous versions.

Do I get paid now?

12 Nov 2005 ~ 12:40am QCH The update from 1.5 RC1 to RC2 was VERY nice. A little popup that stats that after firefox restarts, it will update... Seems peppier.... but that could be my imagination.

Well, I'm back after half an hour of frustration with Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 2! I installed it, clicked to start it, and nothing. Nothing at all happened. No hourglass...nothing at all. I inspected the installation folder and everything seemed in order. OK, so as is often the case with software installs, I thought a Windows reboot was called for. Nope, didn't change anything. I opened Internet Explorer (had to, Firefox was dead), and downloaded a fresh 1.5 rc2. Reinstallation didn't change a thing. Well, I'm always harping to people here about the necessity of frequent, routine system backups. It paid off again. I fired up my external backup, copied the Firefox files from my latest backup, pasted them over the rc2 files, and here I am again. If it weren't for my backup, I might have just lost several hundred bookmarks.

Edit: Just tried RC2 now, and RoboForm and my Silver skin is still not compatibile with it. Back to 1.0.7...
