Called Tech Relief Network, they are seeking to generate awareness in the tech community about the urgent aid that is needed for the tsunami relief. The site itself does not collect money, but brings a quick method of tapping into the often large disposable incomes of today’s geeks and nerds to bring some much needed aid to people who are suffering.

3 Jan 2005 ~ 3:23am dstyle347 Large disposable incomes? That must be nice.. Don't get me wrong, I help when I can, I just found that phrase funny. Good idea though, a lot of people are in bad shape and theres no minimum amount to give. At least take a look at the site, if you have time to read this you have time to give 5 bucks, even for those of us without large disposable incomes..

I wish I could help but right now I don't have an income, disposable or not, so all I can offer up is my hopes that some of the missing are found alive and intact and my prayers that the survivors will continue to be just that, survivors.

3 Jan 2005 ~ 2:01pm GHoosdum Also, Amazon.com is collecting on behalf of the Red Cross. I'm wondering if 100% of that $ goes to the Red Cross, or if Amazon skims some off the top for administrative costs - does anyone know? (Though 1%-3% is probably taken by the credit card company regardless...)

The American Red Cross rates very highly as a charity organization. About 91 cents on the dollar actually goes to the causes, which is very high among charities. Charity Navigator gives the Red Cross a 64.11 Overall Rating (out of possible 70).

My 'disposable' income has already been disposed of by paying my bills, but I'll scrape up some $$ to give anyway.
