The Simpsons to Air for Arab Audience

The Simpsons to Air for Arab Audience

The Independent is running an article that details some of the changes The Simpsons will endure to appeal to an Arab audience.

Among the many changes are the following: The show will now be called Al Shamshoon, Homer will be known as Omar, and Bart will be known as Badr.

Omar may look the same as in the series that debuted in 1987, but he has swapped Duff beer for soft drinks; no longer hangs out at “seedy bars with bums and lowlifes” – Moe no longer owns a bar – and eats barbequed Egyptian beef sausages instead of non-Halal hotdogs. He even grazes on Arab kahk cookies in place of doughnuts.

I know this is not technology news, but the show is very popular with technology enthusiasts.

rapture I think its pathetic. Its great that the arab world is trying to open up to western entertainment and everything but until they realise and accept that the rest of the world is different and they have every right to live their lives in the way that they do then they'll continue to live in the proverbial dark ages.

Garg It's not the Arab's "fault" The Simpsons is changing. It's the Fox TV studio, trying to make more money. If they'll make more money by customizing the show for its audience, then they'll do it. Fox will do anything for a buck. Like pass off a mouthpiece for the Republican party as a cable news channel. :D
  3. Leonardo
Leonardo Hey, if they can make money putting the Simpsons on Arab TV, all the power to them. If it's successful and the Arabs don't see it as disgusting, even better.
  4. Garg
Garg Right. Just to clarify, maybe it sounded like I was faulting Fox for making money. I didn't intend it that way. I would be if they were changing our Simpsons, but the changes don't affect us at all.

rapture Dont worry, I got my warped view from a TV news report about 3 days ago. :)
