AMD Partners Prepare 4×4 Motherboards

AMD Partners Prepare 4×4 Motherboards

AMD have recently been in talks with their motherboard partners and if all goes well the boards and the dual Athlon FX CPUs will be ready for the christmas season.

AMD wants to take the gaming crown back and two Athlon FX 64s in a dual-CPU motherboard will certainly give Conroe a run for its money, no matter how aggressively Intel clocks their CPU’s

But at what cost? I hope that AMD can make something happen that allows them to compete on a chip per chip basis rather than forcing people to shell out for twice the processors just in order to be competitive.

Whoa, you took the words right out of my mouth, Matt.

madmat I'm sure we're not the only ones asking this question. This move smacks of desperation on AMD's part. Rather than try to out muscle the competition out manuver them.

The reverse HT sounds like it could be the road to go down rather than throwing more cores (and more cash) at the problem. I've just been sitting here going WTF ever since I read about the whole 4X4 thing.

RWB What happened to quad core CPU's?

madmat They're coming and are part of the whole 4X4 thing.
  6. masternigh just think about it people. if this is successfully whats to say that the next genteration cpu for AMD wont be more powerful. think about it unless i'm not mistaken they have yet to release a cpu that clocks high the 3.0ghz.

Remember when Intel was dragging it's feet to make faster processors and AMD's surpased their flagship at the time.

All i can say is quadcore 5.0ghz or more...

airbornflght no, copper can only go so fast. There is a ceiling that will/has be/been hit. I'm sure you can go a little faster, but I think they should focus (and they are) getting more data per clock cycle out.

Howdy, Stranger!
