ATI RD580 Motherboards from Asus, DFI, and Abit

Anandtech has an ATI RD580 chipset Motherboard Preview featuring offerings from Asus, DFI, and Abit. The Asus A8R32-MVP, the DFI RD580 and the Abit AT8-32X.

View: Live from Taiwan: ATI RD580 Motherboards

With around 3 months until the scheduled launch of Socket AM2, it is not surprising that many Taiwan motherboard makers are skipping the RD580 Socket 939 launch and planning their first RD580 boards for AM2. However Asus, DFI, Abit, and Sapphire are all expected to deliver Socket 939 RD580 motherboards.

csimon I will wait on this chipset for at least month. I want to read the mfg forums to see just what people who have these boards have to say. Also I will be reading some tech site forums.

It will be interesting to see what DFI has come up with this time.

These should all be real winners with the Uli southbridge.

csimon And by the looks nVidia doesn't have anything worth mentioning to rival this chipset ...for the time being.

Could you have imagined yourself saying something like that back in the nForce-2 days? I sure wouldn't have imagined ULi being a performance contender back then. ;D

How quickly things change in our hobby!

primesuspect Yeah, I was just thinking that DFI used to be a total crap brand, akin to Jetway or something... and now, look :eek3:

This industry never stands still, does it! And the comment ULI. They used to be "ALI", right? I built an AMD Thunderbird system with Ali chipset Iwill motherboard. What a dog! It was smooth, stable, and very easy to set up, but what a poker! But what I'm hearing about them these days is very good.

How's VIA these days? It seems as though Nvidia shredded VIA's market share both with Intel and AMD system boards.
  8. Qeldroma
Qeldroma After an initial offering price of nearly $250 for the ASUS at Newegg and currently hovering around $210, this would be welcome news that might take some edge off that bite.

Personally, I kind of like the idea of neon colored sockets.
