  1. RWB
RWB Wow, it's actually a bit unexpected. I recall the Icrontic days well before S-M, seems so long ago though.
  2. primesuspect
primesuspect I hope someone with good intentions buys it :(

I hope some link-scum spammer doesn't end up with it and it becomes a link parking page :(

muddocktor Man, that's a bummer. I hate to see the old Icrontic name go up on the block. :(
  7. PirateNinja
PirateNinja I think I still went there almsot daily up until last month just because in the last 5 years I got in such a huge habit of doing it. Then I'd always ask myself why I was going there. Now this. *sigh
  8. profdlp
profdlp Sad to see it come to this. :(
  9. QCH
QCH Prof and I were just talking about how slow things had gotten over there... It was a nasty circle... not enough members to generate good threads so members wouldn't visit as often thus not provide good threads to bring in new members…

Oh well... I REALLY hope it finds a good owner and we can still be close "sister-site". ICRONTIC Members, you are always welcome here.

  10. BLuKnight
BLuKnight That does suck. I wonder if it'd be worth buying and just have it redirect to short-media. It'd keep the spammers from taking hold and defiling it.

    Now there's an idea
  12. Enverex
Enverex Did it suddenly get put up for sale without any of the members knowing, or was this something that was planned?
  13. Zuntar
Zuntar Well, none of the remaining members and mods knew. Basicly she died from lack of "content", then the server was acting up, and then the plug was pulled. It's been like a week that it has been down, and then the for sale sign went up.

I am very dissapointed...... I understand, but very disapointed.1011.gif

I do think that is an amazing idea, just a redirect no need for extra servers or anything but the domain name fee's.
  15. Enverex
Enverex Yeah, I agree with that idea. Considering this was basically Icrontic v2.
  16. RWB
RWB Maybe we can start a save icrontic fund type of thing... save being saving it from the posibility of becoming a spam source. I'd be willing to chip in some money, can't do much. I wonder how much the name will be sold for.

There wasn't notice, but I can't say I was surprised. It just seemed to be heading that direction.
  18. BLuKnight
BLuKnight I'm not rich, but I'd be willing to chip in $5.
  19. Jimborae
Jimborae Hmm well I'll chip in $10 but I seem to remember that Mortin got about $2000 for it when he sold it. I don't think we could raise that much could we. :(
  20. Enverex
Enverex That was mainly because someone who wanted it for SM was battling against someone that wanted it for Icrontic still.

I have to admit the site seemed to be more and more dead there and the only people that seemed to be there were people that seemed to know nothing but pretended they did, and preteen 1337 h4x0rs. Not good, heh.

To make a comment like this you clearly you had not been there in a while and had not graced the populous with your vast knowledge.
  22. QCH
QCH You know.... if we could raise the CASH, it might fly. I'll offer up $100 towards the purchase of Icrontic!!!

    Who else?

I visited there every month or so, more often than that originally (when SM was first founded) and less often over time. I have to admit I hadn't been there for a month or so before it closed because the last time I went was when I got the strongest impression of what I had stated above.
  24. muddocktor
muddocktor Zuntar, I hope that you and the rest of the regulars from Icrontic know that you all are welcome to hang here at SM now. It's a shame that Citrix couldn't generate enough new material to keep Icrontic going.

I'll chip in a little money too, if Citrix doesn't want to gouge on the price. If I remember right, when it went up for auction after the hack job, Tex had some sniping proggie bidding on it against Citrix, who I think had a sniping program on it too, so the sniping programs were the cause of the price runup. (or something like that)
  25. Garg
Garg I don't have much to chip in right now, but I could swing $50. We should preserve our history in one fashion or another.

It went up to something crazy like $9000 but they mutually decided to retract the bids. I appreciate people wanting the domain badly, but anyone that uses programs to do that deserve anything they get as it tends to screw Joe Public like myself that try and use the system normally.
  27. primesuspect
  28. QCH
QCH I figure we have $250 so far... If we can generate more, we can always email Citrix and let him know that Short-Media is looking into buying it for a REASONABLE price.
  29. RWB
RWB I'd be able to chip in $25 by this weekend, and more in a couple more weeks. Guess we would need some sort of fund account or something?
  30. lemonlime
lemonlime I think that is a fantastic idea, this domain name should not go to waste. I'll chip in a bit too once we know if we are even in the ballpark.

Thank you muddocktor! I have always felt welcome here and I have every intention of making SM my home, and I will be moving my rigs over to fold for this team as well. (If I could just transfer my points over, that would be SWEET!!! Possible?)

BTW, I'll put in at least $50.00 if we can make it happen!
  33. QCH
QCH First... Points cannot be changed but just change the "Team Number" to #93!!!

Second... we'll need to generate a tone more SOLID cash before we have ANY chance of getting Icrontic. All we would probably get is the data, the name, and the license. So we would be only be stopping some else from taking the name and using it for bad things...
  34. Jimborae
Jimborae Does any SM regular know Cytrix well enough to maybe approach him about this & then we could set up a fighting fund to receive the donations??
  35. QCH
QCH We have a few here that are friends... Prime has communicated with him regarding this and I'm sure Cytrix is watching this thread.
  36. Linc
    Linc I'm down for $50.

How were the original IC/SM folding rigs switched... or do i misunderstand what happend?
  38. Garg
Garg I think all that happened then was they renamed the team for us. Our team number stayed the same. Not sure they'd be willing to migrate point totals for us, since individuals would probably be requesting that pretty frequently. Guess it wouldn't hurt to ask though :)
  39. rapture
rapture The original folding team for icrontic was #93. When the main folderers went Short Media following the crash and sale of Icrontic the team hung out like bums on the AMD Zone boards I think, that right?

So #93 WAS the original folding team. By the way, as I did my first folding for Icrontic under that team I have a head start. Not quite sure how I missed out on the Short Media thing when it first launched to be honest, just saw that Icrontic was back up one day...
  40. QCH
QCH I'm guessing $350 so far....

Like bums? Like BUMS???? ! Ahhh, really now! :hrm:

    ;D

When Icrontic crashed (the devistating third and final crash), Team 93 retained its integrity for the most part, kept our team number, and moved to a temporary home, AMDMB.com (now called PCPerspective). PCPerspective was very gracious and allowed us to use their forums as a team locus of communications. It was a - sniff sniff - beautiful thing. :bawling: When Short-Media was established, the charter members and staff being veterans of Icrontic, Team 93 moved it's new permanent home, Short-Media Forums.

Zuntar, and all other Icrontic members who are here now. Welcome, welcome, welcome. Please contact your fellow Icrontians and let them know that Short-Media is a community where they will be comfortable - both as forum members and as a Folding Team.

BTW, I'm one of the Icrontic 'old timers', having joined when Icrontic was still "Apushardware" (sniff sniff and all that :bawling: ).

A little background on AMDMB.com/PCPerspective.com: Team 93 has long had a fun, friendly rivalry with their team, the "Folding Frogs". It was like moving in with cousins when they hosted our team.
  42. Garg
Garg On an unrelated note, does anyone remember the ghetto hardware article when the Dragon Orb was taped to a TNT2? ;D

If, on the remotest chance, anyone has that article saved or any of the pictures, that'd be awesome.
  43. Shorty
Shorty Im in for $50. Id like to see this name saved :)
  44. QCH
QCH If we were to buy Icrontic... it would almost be like reuniting identical twins, separated at birth. Team Short-Media, with over 10 SMx rigs still folding under the Icrontic name....

Icrontic members may not like it but we already are a modified Icrontic, just missing the name to finalize it...
  45. Aranyic

Buddha16 Wow, I just read the 3 page "What is Icrontic" thread (and finally know who Bart Williams Is), the 47 page ginipig "Amdmb" thread (you brave souls), 2 paged of "The Short-Media Stability Plan", “S-M Back Up DVD Burner” 4 pg, and am now caught up on the history of SM (and I think I’ve developed a stigmatism in my left eye from staring at the monitor for so long:wink:). But I would make an immediate contribution to the "Save Icrontic Fund" (if started).:D

kryyst What can I say I was on icrontic from way back before the hack. Then even stronger since it came back. It's sad to see it go but sadly as much as the few active members that were on there tried to keep it going, it's very hard to support an entire board with only a handful of members. The babe thread was the only active thread still and even that was running out of steam.

So here I am. I need some place to hang out after all.

  80. Hello everyone,
i know i havent posted in a while, i guess i have a little explaining to do.

Icrontic was doing great at one point, but then started going downhill i think because of lack of content.

i dont want to start pointing fingers or trying to figure out what happend with who/why and when, all that is in the past now.

The site is in great hands, i know phil will do a better job than i did with the domains.

its just that for some reason, i feel like i "failed" everyone in keeping the site alive. I didnt have the heart to tell anyone that i was shutting the site down, it was one of the hardest things i had to do, clicking on that shutdown button for the last time.

Odd enuff, it feels good being a regular member again :) , i will be active here for often and helping in anyway i can.

once again, im sorry if i let anyone down.

QCH Citrix... from what I know of you and of how business ventures... Even the strongest and most creative of people fail once or twice... It how you rebound that makes the difference.

You did a great job with IC. I know I didn't help with keeping IC alive. It took seeing it down the first time for me to really get into Short-Media. Not that IC is starting again, I'll help there just like I did here.

You did the right thing... IC needed a new direction and doing it while trying to satisfy everyone... tough. Now you've passed on the torch...
