New Super Mario Bros. Frenzy Continues in Japan

The latest weeks figures released in Japan, show that the New Super Mario Bros. continues to outsell its closest competitor (another Nintendo title), Brain Training 2 by nearly 280,000 units.

In the previous week New Super Mario Bros. sold nearly 900,000 units, putting total reported sales over 1.2 million units in just two weeks at retail.
Overall, seven out of the top ten games were Nintendo titles.

On hardware sales, the DS Lite sold more than five-and-a-half times than that of the PSP at over 135,000 units during the week. Xbox 360 was the sixth best-selling hardware out of 10 platforms, just topping 1,200 pieces of hardware sold.

15 Jun 2006 ~ 4:41pm airbornflght I think the game is kick ass. Maybe its that I just grew up on it. but anyhow, its a good game with simple, but entertaining play. and there is a limit to how much you can do on small systems.

15 Jun 2006 ~ 11:49pm Cyclonite I went to Target on release day and they had 7 in stock. The sales clerk said "this is the first one I've sold all day. I expected them to go more quickly." I didn't get there until 4pm.

Anyway, around here there are a lot available. You probably won't have any difficulty finding one.

As for the New Mario Brothers. I love it. It has that great nostalgic feeling without being hokey. It's a great game that keeps you coming back. The mini-games are fun too.

Brain Age. Man, what a "game." I've been playing it for a few days now, and I have to admit, I think it's actually helping quite a bit. My brain age was 47 when I started. I'm down to 26 now. I've gotten much snappier with responding to the tasks, and I feel a little quicker in everyday stuff. it's probably psychological, but whatever.

And, not to hijack any further, but anyone tried Big brain Academy? I hear it's similar to Brain Age, but has a much more spatial aspect to it. Something like that.
16 Jun 2006 ~ 12:16am paroxym I figured I'd jump in and throw a little love at the DS Lite.
I haven't owned a Nintendo system since the original SNES and the last handheld I owned was the original Gameboy. Somehow I got sucked up in the DS Lite pre-hype and scooted down to BestBuy on release day, picking up my first handheld in ages along with NSMB, Tetris DS and Animal Crossing. Well, colour me impressed because this thing is awesome!

Not only does the DS Lite looks sechsi, but the gaming is a ton of fun as well. Being a rabid PC gamer takes it toll and sometimes you want to be able to just pick up and play for 20 mins instead of having to sit down and devote the chunk of time it takes to get something out of a regular PC title. The DS fits the quick-gaming bill nicely and I have been toting it around with me wherever I go since Sunday.

NSMB has really been a great nostalgia trip with some really fun suprises and it just keeps getting better as I go. Its just as challenging and has the same feel as the old school Marios without adding too many stupid new moves to cheapin the package and make it feel gimmicky. The graphical presentation is top notch too.

So yea, DS Lite/NSMB FTW!

LOL, those games are about the right speed for me. I really liked Snowboard Kids. Go ahead and laugh at me, it's OK.
16 Jun 2006 ~ 9:46am Cyclonite How do you like Animal Crossing? I've actually never played any of them. I can't convince mysekf to sit down at a console and play it. It's something that seems better suited for a handheld in my eyes.

Funny, I purchased the combo Animal crossing DS system and Brain Age @ the same time. So do you think I have found time to sit down and get into Crossing? I haven't even popped it into the machine and it's been like 2 months now. BrainAge has taken over my handheld life!!!! Arggg to you Dr. Ryuta Kawashima!!!!

I hope to get to Crossing very soon, at least before the dust level gets to high!!
