If geeks love it, we’re on it

Firefox > Internet Explorer

Firefox > Internet Explorer

I was having trouble because the web app I’m building chokes in Internet Explorer. My boss told me to stop opening Internet Explorer. A wise man, indeed.

    Here's the thing: IE7 is almost as standards-compliant as Firefox when it comes to CSS. The problem is in the remaining 2% that they both diverge from the standard OR in places where the standard is so ambiguous as to allow both their implementations (e.g. "What happens when you add padding to a text field?" Does it put the space around the whole box, or between the text and the box edge?? :eek3: )

    My current problem is Javascript, and I can't tell you exactly how standards-compliant IE is vs. FF in that regard because I'm still fairly new to it. :-/ Still... I blame IE. ;D

    On the other hand... Ajax exists because Microsoft put a non-standard object in their browser that became so popular the standard was changed to incorporate something similar.

    Kwitko We get shipping quotes online from our logistics company. Their site won't work with Firefox. The IT guy told me that they have no plans to support FF, and my company should be using IE7 anyway, since it's better and safer.

    :bucket::honoes: TBH

    //edit: Here's my (serious for a moment) take on that: There are some arguments that Firefox is no safer or "better" than IE in many regards. However, I don't think there are legitimate arguments that put IE as the clear quality leader. While it's true many sites depend on IE-specific controls like ActiveX, I think it's time for them to move out the 90s and not use proprietary technologies on the web.

    /soapbox.

    primesuspect Same with one of our vendors, Kwitko. We have to use IE for their site. lame.
