Microsoft is going to get no where selling them for the same prices as iPods.

Since Apple already has the Starbucks pricing method down pat, Microsoft would have to go with the Wal-Mart pricing method to differentiate.

Can I transfer songs without DRM or sync via wifi yet? Or was Microsoft too stupid to get that working for their own damn sake?

Don't know about the DRM, but I thought I read today that the new Zunes will interface with WiFi when connected to a WiFi enabled computer.

You mean very high prices for something good, but not quite up to the heights of the prices? (But then, something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Starbucks shops seem to be successful wherever they open.)

Yes, you detailed almost exactly what I meant. I would add that both Starbucks and Apple differentiate their products from the marketplace of lower-priced alternatives through image. Their customers think that either they are getting a better product (design/execution) or that they themselves as customers are better people for choosing Starbucks/Apple (the image). That's smart marketing.
I don't think Microsoft is in a position to sell image.
