PCMark Vantage
PCMark Vantage is a Vista-only benchmark suite from Futuremark. It is multi-core aware and provides a variety of different tests that simulate real-world activities. I’ll be using the ‘Memories’ digital photo manipulation test as well as the ‘TV and Movies’ test. Both are very CPU intensive and can give even the latest processors a good run for their money.
The default benchmark and resolution settings were used for both tests.
The PCMark Vantage tests we’ve run seem to slightly favor Intel’s Core 2 processors. The E8400 does especially well in the “Memories” test, but loses out to most of the triple and quad core processors.
Once again, we see an interesting shift when comparing the original Phenom II X4 940 and the new AM3 models. The AM3 processors appear to be stronger in the Vantage “Memories” test. The X4 810, for example, performs almost on par with the X4 920 despite a 200MHz clock deficit and a lesser 4MB of L3 cache. Clearly the memory controller or HyperTransport frequency is playing a role here again.
