AMD introduces two new dual core CPUs

AMD introduced two new Phenom-derived dual core CPUs this week, the Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition, and Athlon X2 7550. Both are based on the K10 architecture and are probably the last of the 65mn process chips to go to market.

Reviews of the chips are overflowing my inbox and will be posted here in due time, but for now, the general consensus is at $80 and $70 respectively, they’re cheap and give the Intel E5200 a good run at stock speeds.

If you are building a system for your parents/grandparents/young kids, this is a chip worth considering. Consider it a holiday treat, and check out the reviews:

Komete Before anyone gets mad at me I love AMD. But in the grand scheme of things, I don' know if I would have even released these. I know AMD will make money on quad core cpu's that had two bad cores but these are just bad for their reputation. This release is like saying, hey we suck even better.

I would feel differently if they would have brought back the old Duron name and used it instead of Athlon. Why tarnish a legendary name?

I'm sure if it was the 45nm process I'd sing a different tune. Those look extremely promising.

Not to worry. These two models will actually be sold under the Athalon name and no one will be the wiser.
