AT&T announced yesterday that it has completely restructured the plans it will offer new and existing customers going forward.
“With more than twice the number of smartphone customers as our nearest competitor, we are committed to offering great value and choice for customers who want to talk, text and surf on the nation’s fastest 3G network,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets.
“Our new plans reflect customers’ continuing desire to do more with their phones – including talking and browsing the Web at the same time. Plus these new plans make it even more attractive to choose AT&T which already offers customers the best 3G experience and the industry’s most popular and innovative devices.”
The new plans took effect yesterday, January 18, and make the following changes:
Voice plans
All AT&T voice plans now offer rollover minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, and unlimited calling to other AT&T customers unless otherwise specified.
- 450 minutes: $39.99 (5000 nights and weekend minutes)
- 900 minutes: $59.99
- Unlimited: $69.99
As can be seen, the price of calling has been reduced significantly, particularly for the unlimited voice package which has fallen by $30.
Data/SMS plans
Data plans, meanwhile, have been restructured in many cases to combine texting and data services, though these continue to be available individually when eligible.
- Smartphone/BlackBerry Personal: $30 (Unlimited data, no texting)
- Smartphone/BlackBerry Personal 200: $35 (Unlimited data, 200 texts)
- Smartphone/BlackBerry Personal Bundle: $50 (Unlimited data, unlimited texting)
- Messaging 200: $5 (200 text messages)
- Messaging 1500: $15 (1500 text messages)
Customers looking to adjust their plans to fit the new pricing may currently do so without penalty or contract extension. Users looking to bail on AT&T for another carrier should also use this opportunity to jump ship without ETF, as price adjustments represent breach of contract and leverage to escape without fees.
