The Cardigans (Ft. Tom Jones) – Burning Down the House
Now for something different. Burning Down the House is executed unusually with svelte female vocals and the sex bomb of all male vocalists: Tom Jones.
The 212s did well. The song isn’t overly noisy and the vocals for both Nina and Tom came out clearly. The 212’s bright sound signature also gave the instrumentals a very strong quality.
In contrast, the OEs gave a predictably stronger impression with an emphasis on the low end. This actually made the soundstage feel wider and served to showcase both vocalist’s voices. It also sounded less fatiguing on the OEs.
Aaron Ross (Ft. Gia Mellish) – Love Potion
Time to bring out some House! I know Tom Jones just burned it down but here’s another genre that demands a good bass response. I usually listen to this track on my customized Z5500 setup for full effect. Hed Kandi stuff should really be played on a large beach house soundsystem while sexy ladies mingle about.
This track is exactly the kind of music the 212s were made to handle, and I think they did a competent job. I realize I said the 212s fell apart in the presence of electronic, but they were pretty good here. The highs were clear, but again the bass was weaker than it could be.
And that is the difference with the OEs. I actually got up and started dancing with those on! This ended with the cord snapping off the OEs but, oh well, I’ll get a longer cord to go with them next time. The OEs officially rock with House music.
Ive Mendes – Nao Vou Fugir
Ive Mendes is such a sensual and erotic singer! This is one of her signature songs and it’s her own brand of Latin music.
The 212s performed admirably, but they sounded too heady, as though the sound was constrained to a tight space. I wish more could be said of them for this song.
The OEs, as usual, delivered a more expansive soundstage and marvelous lows that really captured the sensual feeling. Ive’s voice was also more rich, and I could really roll with the erotic way she inhales before a passage. I guess the OEs just do really well with lounge, Latin and Brazilian music.
