I stopped by the Razer booth today, tucked away in a meeting area of the convention off the beaten path. They keep their gear hidden from general sight, but I was able to get in and see first-hand their new wireless gaming mouse and full-size gaming headset.
The Mamba wireless gaming mouse was announced just a few days ago, and it feels awesome. The mouse runs in wired mode like a normal Razer we’ve all seen, but will detach from the cord for true 2.4GHz wireless freedom. The response time is 1ms with a 5600dpi, and they’ve removed mouse smoothing so you get true 1:1 action. I tested it. I approve. Should hit the streets soon for $129 or so. Oh, and the battery life is 14 hours of hardcore fragging before you have to recharge.
Also showcased was the Carcharias professional gaming headset. It has super-soft over-the-ear cups, a flexible boom mic, and some quality 2.1 speakers. A 7.1 surround version is coming with technology Razer purchased from the Israeli military. Ex-professional gamer and Razer product development dude Nicholas Depalmer said you can play CS:Source and if somebody under the bridge in de_dust2 pulls their knife out, you’ll hear it above them and know exactly where they are! Too swank. Expect it later this year.
Razer is changing their sponsorship program and is looking to work with smaller LANs like the Icrontic EXPO so we hope to get their gear up there and into your hands in June.
