Defcon outs undercover reporter

Defcon outs undercover reporter

Officials and attendees at Defcon, an annual hackers convention, quickly identified, spotted, and publicly humiliated an undercover reporter from NBC Dateline. She was known before she arrived, refused repeated offers of a press pass, and transparently had a hidden camera in her bag. After being publicly denounced in the main hall, she went through what could only be described as a “shame walk of epic proportions”. The Inq covers it best.

A LOT OF MAKEUP can make you prettier, but it won't make you smarter.
Exactly. Just reinforces my stereotype about mainstream media "journalists."

Read the article guys, it's pretty good.

airbornflght I wish I could go to defcon.... though I'd be in way over my head. But just to sit back and try to soak it all in, hear the industry pros and the different ways of thinking. Would make my year.

Leonardo Ha ha, much MORE there than industry professionals. To be sure though, there is more knowledge of internet/networking security and vulnerabilities packed into that one convention than any other single place on Earth. Black hats, white hats, grey hats - quite an assembly.

airbornflght I know, I've read about it. I'd just like to sit in the corner, and maybe even talk to some of the guys if they'd give me the time of day.

BuddyJ Shame on both of them. Shame on Defcon for being dicks- for saying they hold everyone to the same standard but then they allow any nerd with a blog and webcam who can fork over $100 to attend, but ostracize and hassle an attendee with a video camera. Shame on her for not taking the press pass when offered and for giving up on a story.
