Overclocking
I put the TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF kit through its paces on our Intel 775 test rig outlined in the testing methodology section. Please keep in mind that the Dominator “Airflow Fan” was used for all of the below results.
WARNING: Increasing memory voltage beyond manufacturer specifications can be harmful to memory modules and other system components. Although we subject modules to high levels of vDIMM for testing purposes, many of these results are not suitable for 24/7 use. Always consult with your memory manufacturer to see what a maximum “safe” voltage is for 24/7 use. Increase memory voltage at your own risk!
I started with 5-5-5-18 timings and started cranking up the frequency. Below is the result:
As you can see, there is a bit of headroom present in these modules. I wouldn’t consider them terrific overclockers, but considering their already high default frequency for a 4GB kit, this is not bad. They seemed to respond well to a little extra vDIMM. Anything beyond 2.3V did not improve stability much.
The modules had no difficulty running at PC2-6400 frequencies with tighter 4-4-4 timings. They were actually able to scale just shy of 900MHz—not bad.
At very tight 3-3-3 timings, the modules had no issues maintaining a 667MHz clock, however they didn’t scale much beyond that.
