Corsair Dominator 4GB PC2-8500 Review

Corsair Dominator 4GB PC2-8500 Review

Conclusion

Put simply, Corsair’s TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF is a great kit. The DHX cooling system is still the best I’ve seen to date, cooling both a specially designed PCB and the ICs themselves. BGA based DDR2 modules conduct quite a bit of heat back into the PCB, so this is a very intelligent design that will likely prolong the life of just about any IC under the hood. Corsair’s included “Airflow Fan” has also proved to be a very quiet and effective cooler that complements the DHX system nicely. The combination of the unique cooling solution and black PCB also make this a great looking kit.

Although I had no issues getting the modules to run at their rated specifications, with a top overclock of 1132MHz, they don’t have a great deal of headroom on tap. None the less, a 4GB kit with an out of the box frequency of 1066MHz is nothing to scoff at. Priced very competitively at around $130 after rebate, the TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF kit is a great value—especially considering the included fan. I’m very pleased to give the TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF Icrontic’s “Outstanding Product Award”

Pros:

  • DHX system is a fantastic cooling solution
  • Included “Airflow Fan” is very effective and quiet
  • Enhanced performance profile (EPP) enabled
  • Only 2.1V required for 1066MHz
  • Great price
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons:

  • Not much overclocking headroom

Winfrey Another great review! I found the slight difference in the power consumption comparison to be quite interesting.
  2. Kirm Great review. I just bought these and hope they do as well as yours. I was shocked by the amount of voltage you put to them, though.
