jared Media Player Classic is a great app - still prefer VLC though ;D

    jared BUMP.

I'm in the process of getting everything setup on my next XP install and it got me curious.

Is there anything specific that makes MPC better than VLC or does it come down to personal preference?

I used MPC a while back (over 2 years) and I can't really remember if there was anything that made one app better than the other.

    cheers :jared:

jared OK - remember now the difference. VLC has all the codecs you would need built in. MPC not so much :P
  4. Thrax
Thrax That's why you use good third party codecs, not crappy all-in-one codecs.

jared Hmmm I suppose so but I haven't had any problems with VLCs codecs. yet. :P

UPSKingpin Media Player Classic is excellent.

Even better, grab the K-Lite Codec Pack. It has nearly every codec you'll ever need, and comes with Media Player Classic, Quicktime alternative, and Real alternative. I've used it for years, and for years I've never had to download a codec.

Thrax, I agree--All-in-ones are usually trouble, but the K-Lite pack will impress anyone. :D

K-Lite comes in three versions, for whatever your needs: Full, Standard, and Basic. I've always used full and it's never let me down. Only 14MB too. Get it now.

Snarkasm I've started going with the Combined Community Codec Pack. CCCP is pretty freakin' solid.

jared Thrax, codec pack recommendation? :D
  10. Thrax
Thrax I don't use codec packs. I stick strictly to the codecs for the movies I want to play, because I don't want my system crapped up with ones that can conflict down the road.

If you get the OGM directshow filters, DiVX, XVID, AC3filter, 3vix, WM10 and a good MPEG2 codec, you can play damn near anything.

Could you put those in a pack for us. :P

jared The Essential Icrontic Codec pack - shipping with the Thrax Seal of Approvalâ„¢. Do want. :D
  13. Thrax
Thrax I'ma be a bastard about it and make a 40MB zip file that contains a text file with repeating links to all their websites.

    /me shakes a fist.
