Droid users have been waiting semi-patiently for their beloved phones to receive an update to Android 2.2, but that wait will soon be over. Motorola has released Froyo for the Droid, which should be available via over-the-air update soon (there is currently no word on an official release schedule).
Android 2.2 provides several new features, including USB tethering, additional home screens (five, up from three), a redesigned task bar that includes shortcuts to the phone and browser, support for Flash 10.1, improved application speed thanks to a new just-in-time (JIT) compiler, batch application update, voice dialing over Bluetooth, plus much more.
For those who can’t/don’t want to wait for the OTA update, instructions are available for performing a manual update. I can say from experience (updated two phones today) that the process works and takes about 5 minutes per phone.
