[H]ardOCP’s Kyle Bennet takes Commodore to task

Commodore did this thing—and mind you, it’s a fairly common thing—they sent out a press release talking about their new product.

Tech sites like icrontic and [H] get these all the time.

What we don’t usually get are PR managers that make absurd claims. Kyle Bennett (Editor of [H]ardOCP) followed up on the press release and asked the PR rep what makes Commodore a “leader”. The PR guy’s response?

“Commodore systems have managed to beat every other high performance PC on the market without overclocking our chips. In some cases we have beat major gaming systems by 30% in 3DMark tests.”

30%? That’s pretty significant, considering Commodore has access to all the same off the shelf components that any computer enthusiast has.

I’ll let you read the rest on [H]ardOCP. Suffice to say, Kyle takes Commodore to task on their lofty claims.

BuddyJ That's the reason I don't read [H]. The behavior of both parties is unprofessional. Embarrassing.
  2. Leonardo
Leonardo The onus is on Commodore to back up their sensational, fantastic claims. Apart from Kyle's apparent crude demeanor - partly implied and partly documented, he did nothing that any other self-respecting tech information outlet would not do. He simply asked for substantiation of claims.

Hmm, maybe Commodore has bought out the super duper secrets discovered by the Phantom game console company, from whom we are STILL awaiting....anything at all.

BuddyJ You're right Leo. Asking a company to back up claims is cool with me and the correct thing for a tech site to do. Being crude isn't cool, however, and both parties look guilty of it.

The PR guy must have sucked and probably hasn't been in this business. Kyle has a reputation, and the PR guy should have known about it, both good and bad.
  4. Thrax
Thrax This is why I read [H].

LOL My impressions too. Any company that claims their computers are 30% faster than all of the competitions and then takes on Kyle Bennett has incompetence in the PR department. If you will tell whoppers like that, they probably won't hold up to air beyond Walmart or other general purpose stores where the soccer moms and grandads purchase computers along with the motor oil, fishing lures, and clothes for the screaming toddler in tow. Where would be an appropriate place for these guys to advertise? MySpace? Cosmopolitan? People?

BuddyJ They'd probably have better results hiring Nigerian spammers.

"Dear sir/madam. I have great news for you. You have inherited a computer that is up to 30 percents faster than any other computers in the market. Please resond with your name, address, and $27 USD to cover shipping so I can send you this computer. God bless. Ujimbe Nogoorongoorogo"

    Leonardo BJ, you are brilliant.

The illustrious model of exalted Commodore shall be called...drum roll, please...Yes, it shall be called:

    MODEL 419
