Icrontic Draft League 2011

Icrontic Draft League 2011

The Icrontic Draft League will be a series of events that will take place at official Icrontic Events throughout the year.  All participants in the game would have an opportunity to play on the same basic level as their competitors in a friendly environment where money was no hindrance. The 2011 season will stretch from our New Years celebration (ICNY) until Oktoberfest (ICOK).

To enter the League, each player will purchase five booster packs of the current set (approximately $21.25).  Three of those boosters, designated ahead of time and opened at the first event, would be your starter packs.  These packs would lay the groundwork for your deck.  The remaining two packs would be drafted similar to a regular M:TG draft.

Per Event: At each event beyond the first, participants would draft two additional packs with all attendees.  These drafted cards may be pooled with your original deck to create the deck/s you are playing with.

Cost To Play:  At each event players will chip in $1 towards a prize for top player (or two) depending on attendance.  The prize will never be cash and will always, unless otherwise discussed, be one booster pack of the current drafted set to add to their pool (not drafted amongst players).  Depending on popularity there may be a larger event at EPIC which will have greater rewards.

The Competition: Players participating in events will also receive a score upon completion of an individual event which will place them on a player ladder.  (1 Point for participation, points scale based on performance).

The Ladder: At the end of the year the highest scoring player will receive bragging rights, a pat on the back and be permitted to use one additional pack of the current set the following year (the responsibility is still theirs to acquire it).

The Goal: The reason that prizes are so limited is to discourage any sort of less than noble behavior from participants.  Making the prize structure very limited will hopefully deter cheating and keep the competition friendly not cut throat.

  1. micker This sounds really interesting. Haven't played geek poker in years. Where do you guys play at?

SpencerForHire The format of our league is catered towards people who plan on regularly attending events at ICHQ. It is a great excuse to come out to any of our events for the first time and check out the scene. Just keep in mind this is not so much a tournament as a community get together such as a casual game of Euchre or Poker while partying. There is no sanctioning for this event nor will it adhere strictly to any tournament standards but instead adhere to normal IC etiquette

While I'm posting, anyone interested in this that isn't quite sure they'd know how to draft or even play Magic, I will be happy to teach people how to play before hand. Throw me a message if this is something that interests you.

Linc Howdy, micker. We play in Warren, Michigan.
  4. Brenda You know I'm in. :)
  5. MAGIC
    MAGIC I suppose I'll play.
  6. SpencerForHire
SpencerForHire For those interested, do not buy packs ahead of time. I'll likely try to pick up the packs in bulk to lessen the cost.
  7. ardichoke
ardichoke I suppose I could be counted in (for the events that I actually make it to)

    SpencerForHire Rules revisions:

    1. The starting sealed packs will always be Scars of Mirrodin for the 2011 season.

    2. During the event and only during the event, cards from each individuals sealed pool may be up for trade... There is a gentlemen's agreement to not purposefully draft rares or other in demand cards with the intent of trading... This type of action hurts the spirit of what we are doing here.

    3. Each event is single elimination but each round is best of 3.

    4. Decks may be altered between games (sideboarding) and between rounds before opponents have been decided.
