It’s almost here—Dominion, the eagerly anticipated next evolution of League of Legends, is getting closer and closer to release.
In this newest iteration of the popular free-to-play MOBA style game, Riot Games is setting out to create a new type of game play experience. Rather than simply creating a new map skin, players will have to adapt and master a whole new play style.
On the Crystal Scar, players will battle for control of five capture points arranged in a circle. Holding these points will slowly damage the enemy nexus. Hold the points long enough, and the enemy nexus will be destroyed.
Dominion is designed for overall faster game play—faster accumulation of items, faster game phase progression, and more frequent 1v1 battles. The map is designed to last for approximately twenty minutes, and rarely hits thirty.
Riot has been intentionally vague regarding the drop date of Dominion. When pressed, they have only stated it will become available, “Shortly after PAX.” Rumors, however, have been flying that it’ll go public with the next scheduled update on September 14th. Adding credence to this is an official announcement made Friday on the League of Legend forums stating, “Ladder Season One will officially come to a close in the next update with the release of Riven, the Shattered Exile.” All in all, I call our odds of playing on the Crystal Scar on September 14 pretty darned good.
