On the heels of the sad news that Toshiba is thought to be rolling up the red carpet on HD-DVD comes word that Microsoft doesn’t believe such a move will harm the 360. While this pronouncement has Microsoft executives (And shareholders) breathing easy about their console, it’s another nail in the HD coffin.
Toshiba has been mired in setbacks, all in rapid sequence as of late, which has effectively killed its chances at promoting the standard further. Meanwhile, the US stock market has actually elevated the price of Toshiba shares for demonstrating the willingness to not go down with a sinking ship.
All told, it looks like Microsoft, one of Toshiba’s biggest allies, could not muster any more support for the spec than its standard-bearer. A shame, really.
