Origin ‘Big O’ combines PC and 360 in one big box

Can’t decide whether to get a new gaming PC or an Xbox 360 and have a mountain of cash laying around?  It’s your lucky day because you no longer have to choose between the two!  Origin’s “Big O” is a completely custom liquid-cooled system housing not only a high-end overclocked PC, but also the guts of an Xbox 360 slim.  The custom case is sure to attract the attention a system like this is designed for.

The $7669 base configuration consists of:

  • Core i7 930 overclocked to 4GHz (liquid cooled)
  • Asus Rampage III Extreme motherboard
  • 6GB Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600
  • Dual NVIDIA GTX 480 (liquid cooled)
  • Dual OCZ Vertex2 50GB SSDs in RAID 0
  • 2TB WD Caviar Black HD
  • Silverstone 1500W PSU
  • 12x Pioneer Blu-ray burner
  • Creative Fatal1ty sound card (with front bay panel)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
  • Liquid cooled XBox 360
  • 5 port gigabit switch

Of course, if that’s not enough horsepower, the $16,999 “CPU Magazine” configuration consists of:

  • Dual Xeon X5680 overclocked to 4.3GHz (liquid cooled)
  • EVGA SR2 motherboard
  • 12GB Corsair Dominator DDR3-2000
  • Quad NVIDIA GTX 480 (liquid cooled)
  • Quad OCZ Vertex2 50GB SSDs in RAID 0
  • Dual 2TB WD Caviar Black HD
  • LSI Megaraid SAS 9260-4i
  • Dual Enermax 1050W PSU
  • 12x Pioneer Blu-ray burner
  • Windows 7 Home Ultimate 64-bit
  • Liquid cooled XBox 360
  • 5 port gigabit switch

Custom configurations are also available if neither of these systems is up to your requirements.  Unfortunately you can’t just build your own online; you’ll need to speak with someone at Origin for configuration and pricing.  Whatever your preferred configuration, your system also includes a personalized plaque, lifetime phone and online support, a three year warranty (with free shipping), and is shipped in “ORIGIN Wooden Crate Armor”.

Insanity?  You betcha.  Want one?  You know it.

"Only __________ in a $7k package?" can be said to many of the specs in that system.

  4. mertesn
mertesn I priced the entry-level version on Newegg as closely as possible.

    $179.99 2TB WD Caviar Black
    $959.98 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 480
    $149.99 Creative Fatal1ty sound card w/front panel
    $379.99 Silverstone 1500W PSU
    $189.99 6GB Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600
$359.99 Asus Rampage III Extreme motherboard
    $284.99 Intel Core i7-930
    $219.99 Plextor 12x Blu-ray burner (Pioneer wasn't available)
    $339.98 2x OCZ Vertex2 SSD
    $299.99 Xbox 360 Slim 250GB
    $ 23.28 Shipping
    $3388.16 Total

No idea what the custom cooling and case cost, but this will at least get you started on your own version. I'm guessing the cooling, case, and extras *could* run about $1000 for a total of $4388.16. That still leaves quite a margin before advertising and salaries are considered, but it's probably right in line with what Dell/Alienware would charge for something similar (*no research was done for this statement*).
  5. BIG K $7k? The xbox 360 slim is $299.99, and my gaming rig is just about as good (despite the liquid cooling) and it only cost me $1500.00 after it was all said and done...Triple the cost? For what? The convenience of having the 360 and a PC in one? I don't think so.

ardichoke I was marginally interested until the SSDs in RAID0... aside from my misgivings about SSDs in general, RAID0 is just a bad idea 99% of the time. Overpriced and DO NOT WANT.

  11. NullenVoyd
NullenVoyd The water cooled xbox is a cool idea but I'm not sure there's any reason to have that linked with a ridiculous computer.

Also, the corded controller seems off... is this supposed to sit quietly under your uber-screen tv? I'm not sure I'm ready for the concept of computers-as-furniture.

Koreish It looks cool I guess. You know if you're into the whole ugly square thing.

drasnor Winfrey, you're thinking too small. You should be using Benjamin Franklin for that instead of Andrew Jackson if you can afford this thing.
