Following on from Deus Ex and Hitman: Codename 47 last week—Thief: The Dark Project is the latest Square Enix title to get the Good Old Games treatment, with Looking Glass Studios’ gold edition getting re-released on the GoG store.
The quitessential stealth game—Thief: The Dark Project has had a huge influence on gaming by pioneering the concept of evasion over engagement as well as both inspiring and setting the benchmark for stealth in future titles. Gameplay elements like the light and noise meter owe their very existence to Thief: The Dark Project and innovations like those earned it a cult following among gamers. This popularity lead to the definitive gold edition of the game which consists of Thief: The Dark Project, general bug fixes, as well as the restoration of cut content from the original release.
As with both Deus Ex and Hitman, Thief: Gold was acquired by Square Enix through their Eidos Interactive takeover, but unlike its Eidos brethren it hasn’t been particularly easy to get running on a modern PC nor has it made it to the Steam store, making a GoG release all the more welcome.
Fans of Garrett will be pleased to know that Thief: Gold is available now from gog.com, a steal at only $9.99.
