Tom & Jerry Golden Collection coming to Blu-ray

Tom & Jerry Golden Collection coming to Blu-ray

Tom & Jerry Blu-ray

This is something I’ve personally been waiting for with great anticipation.

In the 90’s, I happened into a Laserdisc player. One of the two Laserdiscs I owned was “All This And Tex Avery Too!” which introduced me to the amazing mind and brilliant humor of the Tex Avery shorts of the “Golden Age” of animation—the 40’s and 50’s. I had, of course, known about Tom and Jerry, Droopy, and others as a child, but this Laserdisc showed me the breadth and depth of Avery’s style and wit.

Now, Warner Home Video is bringing 37 of Avery’s Tom & Jerry classics to Blu-ray with the Tom & Jerry Golden Collection: Volume One. This is something I’m putting on my wish-list immediately, because having 37 shorts (with the potential promise of more volumes to come!) in a definitive, high-def format is just too good to be true. There are very few cartoons that can make me guffaw and grin for five minutes straight like Tom & Jerry’s antics can.

You can pre-order it now on Amazon.

Bandrik Ah, Tom and Jerry. I tried to like this cartoon as a kid, I really did. But Jerry just pissed me off too much. He's so damn smug, and gets away with so much shit. I respect respect the Tex and all with a lot of his work, but...

Nah, Popeye the Sailor was where it was at.

primesuspect Random factoid I learned at an animation festival the other day: Tom & Jerry was actually the name of a prohibition-era drink. There was another Tom & Jerry cartoon that pre-dated the cat-and-mouse as well. #themoreyouknow

UPSLynx That is an awesome factoid.

I'll probably be buying this. That's a great collection.
  4. CB
CB Tom and Jerry is another Cartoon that Warner Bros. is planning to reboot soon, so a Bluray release of the classics makes sense to gauge/produce interest.

Cliff_Forster Late one night when my daughter was up and not feeling well Boomerang was running a Tom & Jerry classics marathon. She is now a fan like the old man.
  6. Gattsu
Gattsu I still need to buy The Lion King on Blu-ray. God help me if they release the Animaniacs on Blu-ray.
  7. John I love classic cartoons from the Golden Age of animation. I can't wait to see these cartoons on blu ray for the first time - restored, uncut, and uncensored, as they should be. This set, and the upcoming Looney Tunes blu ray collection, will be the video releases of the year in my opinion.
  8. Kellz This is grand. I remember being a young kid, staying up late to watch Scooby-Doo, and Tom and Jerry on cartoonnetwork. This will be one for the ages.
