Re: Rolling Stone updated 500 greatest album list - more diverse, modern.
Surprised how well represented more modern rap/hip-hop is on that list. Basically every Kanye album, rightfully so though I'd have ordered them a bit differently. Surprised Good Kid Mad City wasn't on there but Kendrick had a few spots. 36 Chambers should be top 10.
All the classic rock stuff you'd expect, but as always Metallica/Sabbath are the only metal band that exist apparently. I'd put Blackwater Park from Opeth, The Satanist from Behemoth, and maybe The Jester Race from In Flames somewhere on there.

BAKE ALL THE THINGS in October with Massalinie and GQ!
What up y'all,
IT'S TIME TO BAKE MORE THINGS!!
1.) @Massalinie will be instructing everyone on how to make pretzels! She'll post more details about that below. Get ready to make delicious salty pretzels!
2.) It's time for a spooky bake-off, or a SPOOP-OFF! Make all the spoopy themed baked good in October. This is an event with PRIZES! There will be two-- one distributed randomly, and one based on aesthetics (since I have not yet figured out how to taste things through computer screens). The winner of the aesthetic contest will be determined by vote at the end of the month, and will not be eligible for the random prize. The best thing about the spoopoff? You have almost all month! Photos will be due in this thread by end of day October 28th, so that we have a few days for voting.
Please feel free to submit as many things as you want, but if you put in multiples, please note which you'd like judged for aesthetics. You will only be given one entry for each contest.

Get bakingggggggggggg

Re: Rolling Stone updated 500 greatest album list - more diverse, modern.
That is a much more comprehensive list than years past indeed.
Some quibbles with the rankings:
- A lot of these albums seem to be on there based solely on sales, not that they are not good albums, they are, its just they seem to be ranked above where I would put them.
- Dark Side of the Moon is, in my opinion (which is this entire post), not as good as Wish You Were Here. Still a fantastic album, but Wish You Were Here just flows together better than Dark Side.
- Interesting to see them rank Revolver above Rubber Soul; not many lists have done that over the years. I personally like Rubber Soul much more than Revolver, I could see either of these being over the other, you just usually see Rubber Soul ranked higher than all other Beatles albums except for Sgt Pepper's
- Like the love sent out to early hip hop, those albums seem to be routinely NOT listed at all in the past.
- Interesting that someone finally ranked a Radiohead album in front of OK Computer. Kid A is a fantastic album, but personally, it is still 3rd behind OK Computer and The Bends. In Rainbows is right up there as well.
- FINALLY MARVIN GAYE IS FUCKING RECOGNIZED! That is an album that you can listen to at any time of day, any place in the world, in any mood and you will feel better.
Overall it is definitely a much more comprehensive list incorporating many more genres than other similar lists that Rolling Stone, or anyone else for that matter, has put out to date.
Rolling Stone updated 500 greatest album list - more diverse, modern.
I think it's fascinating, and maybe in some small way a glimmer of hope that some people are listening and understanding the current outcry for equality. On the old list only three female artists cracked the top fifty, now it's seven. On the old list there were eleven black artists in the top 50, and mostly ones that had gained mainstream success with a white audience. The new list has 25 in the top 50, and a few acts that are not as pop crossover successful with white kids.
I'm going to sit down and metrics the two lists to see the changes. I think for some it will be easy to dismiss as unimportant, just a corporate magazines view, but I think it's important recognition to be included on that list. It's a way of saying that art left a fairly significant mark on popular culture, and to see more musical genres represented outside the classic rock sphere, to sort of allow a newer generation to come in and say, hey, the Beatles and Stones are great and all, but there is a lot more going on now... I think it represents progress and this is coming from a middle aged classic rock kinda guy (but a huge music fan first)
Re: I'm actually thinking about letting go of most if not all AAA gaming.
@Cliff_Forster good time to remind everybody that Icrontic has an event calendar, and that @MiracleManS is doing a C#/Unity quickie primer on Wednesday the 23rd.
